Hey, Reflection readers!
Being the 29th February, this is the only time I will be able to write a newsletter on this day for four years. I don't know why I find that cool but I do.
So I've had an eventful February.
I attended NFT Paris... well, I attended half of it.
I was supposed to fly in on Thursday morning so I'd be nice and fresh-faced for the two following days of the event...alas, this didn't happen.
The rain gods decided to whip up a storm so my plane couldn't land and therefore I was whisked off to...Amsterdam.
And I didn't have as much fun there as one would think. I had to stay in the airport for the day, got put up in a hotel nearby, and suffer another delayed flight the next day, therefore missing the entire first day of NFT Paris.
Bummer.
I did, however, make the most of the second day and dived into all the side events and galleries I could. The event itself was pretty good, some very engaging talks and showcasing of mainly art and fashion based NFTs and use-cases.
I would have liked to see a bit more on the music side of things - 2024 is going to be a great time for music and web3 I believe - and a few less sponsors and sponsor booths would have been nice but I realise they have to make money.
I go into details below on some of the art, fashion projects, and galleries I attended, and, as always, it was great to network with people old and new.
If anything, the conference showed that NFT art is still very much alive, even if, in some cases, it is a little misguided.
Art
So much great art at NFT Paris. The Galerie Iham hosted some great events each night including collections from Accelerate Art on the Thursday and SuperRare Labs on the Friday. I made it to the Superrare event which featured some fantastic pieces from Amber Vittoria and Eko33 among others.
Another great gallery event was Kaleidoscope of Collective Visions set up and hosted by Kirill Pobedin and Pauline Faieff . Some fantastic photography on display and for purchase, as well as an enthralling piece by Albert Soloviev shown below.
On top of this, the main event displayed some great work by various artists showcasing the speed at which fine art is being integrated with NFTs to move the use cases forward in 2024.
I genuinely feel fine art and web3 technology will be inexplicably linked and it normalised over the next 5 years.
Music
Not much to shout about for music at NFT Paris, but I'm still very much bullish on it for 2024. With Web3 accelerators like Mastercard's collab with Polygon and Warner coming to fruition and an amount of well-intentioned platforms trying to redirect more royalties towards the artists themselves, it could be the next big step forward.
There was only one talk at NFT Paris on music titled "Music NFTs - When, why?" which didn't have time to really get into the thick of it.

Watch this space over the next year. I'll continue to report on my thoughts and growth in the space.
Fashion
9DCC was the belle of the ball on the fashion end of NFT Paris. A big presence as soon as you walk through the front doors, 9dcc is a fusion of high-end fashion and blockchain technology, with garments embedded with NFC chips linked to the blockchain.
Nothing that hasn't really been done before, but with a mix of good marketing and a strong community, they've managed to create an up and coming brand, albeit a pretty expensive one.
160 euros for a t-shirt? A bit rich for my blood.
They launched a new line at NFT Paris which was a nice touch and I'm sure they sold more than a few pieces, too.
The new range features a more hidden NFC chip than older collections which I feel is a good idea to integrate non-crypto natives to the brand and grow. It was previously pretty garish.
This month's highlight goes to a wonderful collective of artists I met at NFT Paris, namely The London Police .
Chaz Barrisson and Bob Gibson, originally from the UK, began their artistic voyage on the streets of Amsterdam.
25 years later they have painted in galleries and on walls all over the world.
They are now venturing into the web3 world with their art and collections with the designs looking perfect for the space.
Their work is hand-painted and I love the physical and digital aspects they're offering. Check out their website and Discord community for more details.
Instead of highlighting a product, website, or course this week, I'm looking inward to some of the good folk on LinkedIn itself.
One guy who I can't recommend enough and everyone in the web3 space, old or new, should follow is Keir Finlow-Bates .
Keir is a fountain of knowledge and produces content on the platform all the way from the basics for those new to the web3 space via visual guides and other bits and pieces, right the way through to very complicated stuff that goes over my head but is still a delight to read and try to understand and learn from.
His frequent wit is the icing on the cake.
Oh, and he's also written two books on web3: Move Over Brokers, Here Comes the Blockchain and Evil Tokenomics . I've read the latter and I assume the former is just as good a read.
That's it for this month, folks. As always, I welcome comments and discussions! See you in March...
Jamie
