STO launches Women and Girls in Science Challenge

The Women and Girls in Science 2024 Challenge was launched on 8 February at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

In celebration of this year's International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the NATO STO launched a new challenge that aims to inspire young women to pursue and/or further their careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Women and Girls in Science 2024 Challenge, announced at NATO Headquarters earlier this month, is open to female university students and early-career researchers up to the age of 35. Participants are invited to submit a short research proposal on one of four focus areas: energy security, climate change, human security and societal resilience. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their work at NATO Headquarters, with the three winners invited to visit the NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation in La Spezia, Italy this summer. The deadline for proposals is 21 April.
