Skills for Change
This month, Computek College announced a significant partnership with Skills for Change to launch the innovative Newcomer Cybersecurity Talent Pod. Supported by the federal and Ontario governments, this program equips underserved communities with crucial skills for workforce success and addresses the cybersecurity skills gap for newcomer Canadians. As the cybersecurity sector grapples with mounting staffing demands, it presents opportunities for diverse and racialized populations in Canada to excel in this rapidly growing industry. As the CEO of Computek College, I am delighted that we are committed to ensuring that Ontario's tech sector authentically represents Canada's evolving, diverse population by providing newcomers with the skills and pathways they need to thrive.
369 Global x SJC Magazine Launch Official Toast
Last month, we announced an exciting partnership between 369 Global and St. Joseph Communication (SJC) to introduce a new quarterly magazine spotlighting established newcomer Canadians, the issues they care about and what Canada has to offer. We celebrated our official kickoff event at SJC headquarters. Tony Gagliano, CEO & Chairman of SJC, and Cameron Williamson, Vice President of Client Solutions, Media & Content at SJC, shared a heartfelt toast. I truly appreciate their passion for this project. I hope the new print and digital publication will inspire local and global thinking. While there's much to accomplish before the inaugural issue launches in September, we're eager to keep you updated throughout the journey. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements revealing the magazine's name and branding in the months ahead!
Canada's Difference Maker's Gala
I was honoured to attend Canada's Difference Makers Gala at the Art Gallery of Ontario this month. It was a night filled with inspiration, surrounded by some of Canada's most influential figures, including Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and the Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, who celebrated her 85th birthday and incredible career at the gala!
Being among many dedicated Canadians was genuinely motivating, as they work tirelessly to ensure newcomers feel welcomed and empowered to contribute to our country's success. Their stories and commitment to fostering inclusivity left a profound impact on me. I applaud every person involved for their unwavering dedication. Together, we are building a Canada where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and make meaningful contributions.

Boyden Interview - Navigating Change: Canada's Decision to Cap International Student Permits and Its Global Impact
Last month, the Canadian government made a notable announcement regarding imposing a limit on international students' admission to Canada. This decision directly responds to the various societal challenges Canada is currently grappling with, including the housing crisis, strains on healthcare, and other essential services, along with trying to stabilise Canada's rapid population growth. Additionally, it aims to address concerns about certain colleges engaging in unfavourable practices towards international students. As a result, there will be a nearly 50% decrease in the influx of international students entering Canada this year.?
I was privileged to have been asked by the premier leadership and talent advisory firm Boyden, to offer my insights on this recent government policy. You can read my full interview with Alain Pescador, Principal at Boyden, alongside Issac Garcia-Sitton, the Executive Director of International Student Enrollment, Education & Inclusion at Toronto Metropolitan University and the Board Director at the Canadian Bureau for International Education, by following the link provided in the image. Grand Opening of the Jerry Coughlan Health & Wellness Centre at Lakeridge Health
This month was the much anticipated opening of the Jerry Coughlan Health & Wellness Centre (JCHWC) at Lakeridge Health. I was happy to have witnessed the grand opening alongside Vic Sgro, Board Chair at Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation, and Tracy Paterson, CEO of Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation, as we celebrated the addition of this state-of-the-art surgical centre.?
The JCHWC is a much-needed healthcare facility for the Durham Region, offering a variety of day surgeries, including endoscopy, orthopedics, and gynecological procedures. The facility will have the capacity for over 9,000 surgical procedures annually and will also provide vital services such as doctors' offices, urgent care, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and a pharmacy. This offers much-needed care and will positively impact the community.?
