February 2024

Tired of hearing about AI? Feeling FOMO of all the things everyone is supposedly doing? Not sure where to start your or your organization’s AI journey from? How much of this is value, and how much really, is just noise?

Well, in the wise words of my daughter - “We got you, fam!“

This month has been specially AI-focused for us. So we thought, why not distill the best of it, and bring it to you in this newsletter? If you’re just starting, grab this blog in eLearning Industry on the 10 essential AI terms all learning professionals should know. We wrote this blog initially as a handout for our workshop on “AI for L&D Teams” for a Fortune 100 Company, where we discussed the use of AI in Analysis, Instructional Design, and Media Development in three 3-hour sessions. Fun!

If you’re looking to pilot AI integrations in eLearning sometime this year, don’t miss out on an article focused solely on that: Trial AI in Your eLearning with Minimal Budget. It’s somewhat of a long read, but sets you up for success for your experiments!

I also spoke about AI this month at a ‘super session’ at ATDTK in Los Angeles, for the ATD-Research Triangle Chapter, on a superstar panel for executives with Training Magazine,?with other L&D professionals at The Learning Awards Gala in London, and at Training2024 in Orlando. (Perhaps we should start a travel blog too, lol.) The recording for the panel is available (and it’s free!) so I’ll highly recommend watching that if you’re an executive trying to figure this AI maze out.

A final overarching thought: AI is great, but there’s so much more to good learning design. As we’ve learned and seen in years of working with and for exceptional people - it is a mindful mix of artistic nuances, careful analysis, and a deep understanding of the learner’s paradigm. The mode and tech you use are enablers of the strategy. Let’s not lose sight of the human element in the pursuit of Artificial Intelligence! Good training is good training, with or without AI!?

Hope you enjoy this deep dive into AI in L&D and Education.

In our March newsletter, we’ll turn our focus on Gamification.

Stay tuned!
