The February 2023 Edition
Hello again to another monthly roundup of all things Security & Networking from the Edge7 Networks team.
Let's dive right in...
1. Stat of the Month
Businesses in the UK and Ireland overspend on MPLS by an average of 50% compared to other WAN options.
The same study also found that only 20% of network traffic in these regions actually required the high reliability and low latency of MPLS. In addition, a survey by Network World found that 62% of companies cited cost reduction as the primary reason for adopting SD-WAN.
Aruba have a handy ROI Calculator where you can find out how SD-WAN can help reduce your networking costs and save over time—and download a personalised report with your findings.
2. Tip of the Month
Did you know that you don't have to be an Edge7 Networks customer to get some advice from our team?
Enabling businesses is part of our DNA; customer or not.
So this months top tip is not to sit with a problem or challenge - ask us!
Our helpdesk team are highly skilled problem solvers who work with businesses 365/24/7 on making sure everything is running smoothly.
I'd take my odds on a bet that there's nothing they can't solve.
3. Quote of the Month
"I wanted to make it simple. I tell people there’s nine things you need to know to do zero trust: the four design principles and the five-step methodology. And that’s pretty much it."?
VentureBeat sat down (virtually) with?zero trust?creator?John Kindervag and got his insights into how zero trust’s adoption is progressing across organisations and governments globally and what he sees as essential to its growth.
Originally created with a simple methodology, Kindervag talks hype-cycle, implementation and where the market is going with the phrase he coined back in 2008.

?4. Article of the Month
There has been a big focus over the last couple years on IoT devices and the security risks they pose. But coming up close behind it is Operational Technology (OT). As OT gains popularity as a result of digital transformation across traditionally non-IT focused industries, they become an even more popular entry point for cyberattacks.
Palo Alto have announced a new cloud-based solution purpose built to offer a consistent security service to secure the whole infrastructure that includes OT assets, remote access, and 5G connectivity.
5. Video of the Month
Video of the month is featuring Aruba's EdgeConnect SD-WAN solution!
Watch this video to understand how a secure SD-WAN, such as Aruba EdgeConnect SD-WAN, identifies and prevents network intrusions by creating fabric-wide security policies for IDS/IPS based on roles and zones.
6. Downloadable of the Month
Bit of an SD-WAN theme to this month eh?
This GigaOm Radar for SD-WAN provides an overview of notable vendors and their available offerings - with our top choice SD-WAN vendors Aruba & Palo Alto in a leading position.
The corresponding GigaOm “Key Criteria Report for Evaluating SD-WAN Solutions” outlines critical criteria and evaluation metrics for selecting an SD-WAN solution. Together, these reports offer essential insights and help decision makers evaluate solutions before deciding where to invest.
Of course - the report is a good overview of the different SD-WAN offerings out there. But if you're looking for some real decision making help, there's nothing our techies love more. They are hands on with SD-WAN every day, having demoed, used and weighed up each SD-WAN offering to ensure that we present the best the market has to offer. So for advice, you know where to go.
7. Event of the Month
iboss & Renaissance are hosting a webinar on March 20th to discuss the iboss Zero Trust platform.
This is going to be a great event to discuss Zero Trust security solutions in general, but in particular it will give a great overview of the iboss platform and how powerful it is as a cloud security platform.
It's a must attend if you ask us! Register here
Keep an eye on our socials for another iboss event announcement which you certainly won't want to miss.
That's it for February folks.
We hope you enjoyed this month's roundup; and if you have something great from the last month to share with our audience, drop a link in the comments!
