When you are suffering from crisis fatigue and days worth of constant anxiety, having a refuge is priceless.
I am so thankful to be part of the Thiess family, as it has truly been a blessing during this disaster.
Our CEO Michael Wright informed us on the Sunday that our head office would be open if we needed it - and I needed it.
Mud. The first of 4 3/4 days without power. 2m of water lingering in my street; I have never been so happy to head to the office.
Air conditioning, food, real coffee (!!!), news, hot showers with fluffy towels, wifi and people who cared, meant so much.
Sure there was work done too, meetings to be had via Teams, but having our CFO Craig Morton, regularly check in on my welfare and discussing salad options with our CEO, while surreal, reassured me that everything would be okay. And you know what?
Everything is okay.
And now Thiess continues to assist its staff and the community: Volunteering (Community Service Leave), Food drives, Fundraising and for impacted staff - flood support payments.
It’s time to ask yourself how your employer has stepped up with Covid and now the floods.
Thank-you for reading.
