As a Customer Care Representative at CaringBridge, Alec Bravo brings a deep understanding of the emotional and practical support our users need during health challenges. When his grandmother began showing signs of memory loss last year, Alec moved in to care for her after the family learned she was in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.

1. How has caregiving showed up in your life?

I’ve been helping care for my grandmother as she faces the onset of Alzheimer’s. It’s been a journey learning how to support her through the changes.

2. What is one thing that you think gets overlooked?

I think the process often gets overlooked, especially with Alzheimer’s. Some days are better than others, but the progression is slow, and you must adjust to it over time. Patience and acceptance are key.

3. What inspired you to join CaringBridge?

The culture here really drew me in. Everyone is incredibly supportive, and I’m lucky to have an amazing boss and team. It feels like a place where people genuinely care about each other.

4. Can you share a story with us or an insight that sticks in your mind that relates to a caregiving experience?

Recently, my grandmother has been seeing things, like white spirits, or talking to walls. I’ve learned to embrace it and act like I see them too. It helps her feel understood, and I think it’s the best way to connect with what she’s experiencing, even if I don’t fully understand it myself.

5. Lastly, can you share either: an approach, a piece of wisdom or something that might help other caregivers, OR a song you would add to a playlist for a caregiver?

It might sound cliché, but I’d say: “Take it one day at a time and cherish the little moments—whether they’re good, bad, or difficult.” These are moments you won’t get back, so the best thing you can do is stay present and go easy on yourself.

As for a song, I’d pick Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. It’s a reminder that “every little thing is gonna be alright.”
