ASD policy recommendations for 2024-2029
This month, ASD published its policy recommendations for the next five years. With the EU elections taking place in June that will determine the make up of the next European Parliament, and with the new European Commission expected to begin by the end of 2024, ASD’s Secretary General Jan Pie said: “The next five years are pivotal to ensure Europe’s sovereignty and security but also for its ambition to master the green and digital transition. ASD’s policy recommendations show how EU policies can support our industries so they can in turn fully play their role as a key enabler for a strong, safe and sustainable Europe.”
ASD reacts to EU announcement on boosting the defence industry
Last week saw the historic presentation of the EU’s first-ever defence industrial strategy. The strategy is aimed at supporting? the competitiveness and readiness of the European defence industry and was welcomed by ASD as an important contribution to “strengthening Europe’s capacity to protect the security of its citizens, territory, and core values.”
Lithuanian association joins ASD
At the beginning of this month, the Lithuanian Defence and Security Industry Association (LDSIA) joined ASD. This is our first member from the Baltic region. Vaidas Sabaliauskas, CEO of LDSIA, said: “By joining ASD, we aim to strengthen our ties with industry leaders across Europe. Our membership will not only enrich the diversity of perspectives within ASD but also offer valuable insights and expertise from the Baltic region.”
ASD's new Sustainability Director
In a clear signal of ASD’s commitment to being a catalyst for sustainability in the European aerospace, security, and defence industry, a new position of Director of Sustainability was announced last month. ASD’s first Sustainability Director is Isabelle Maelcamp, who has a long and distinguished career specialising in EU policy and regulatory developments.

European Defence & Security Summit 2024
ASD is partnering with European Business Summits to host the 7th edition of the European Defence & Security Summit.
