FEATHER IN THE CAP - SHAPING THE CAREER
I am at that juncture of my professional career where I can look back at how it progressed and shaped up. For our generation survival had been the key and never thought that soon we might be outdated. I just acquired one basic professional qualification that of B.Arch and whatever specializations got added were just a part of the opportunities that came my way. I realized that the basic ground of my professional qualification was not strong and fertile enough to be able to withstand the test of time. There is a popular phrase " Another feather in the cap"?where the focus is on the " ANOTHER FEATHER". whereas feather ( a skillset, qualification, or addition in some way to the credentials) the feather is important but generally has a shorter shelf life. Like a feather that of a "REVIT" operations for a BIM expert. So REVIT may have a shorter shelf life and is the feather in the BIM expert's cap. BIM expert as a cap also has its limitation and the number of feathers it can accommodate and those feathers may also have limited shelf life or growth possibilities. it's important that the cap itself should be big and timeless to have the flexibility to accommodate feathers relevant to the time. A cap of a graduate or post-graduate is big but not strong and therefore one should add a more generic qualification like project management or business administration to make the cap strong enough to survive in the industry for 35 to 45 years. So the idea is to shape the cap carefully and make it strong and big enough to add sufficient feathers to take the test of time.
