The smell of roasted turkey, the sound of laughter around the dinner table and the warmth of loved ones gathered together—Thanksgiving is here and with it comes a chance to pause and reflect.
What if we moved past the standard gratitude checklist—family, health, job—and ventured deeper? Gratitude isn’t just about what’s around us; it’s about what’s within us. It’s about being thankful for the person you are, the growth you’ve experienced and even the struggles that have shaped you.
And because this is Thanksgiving—and giving is at its heart—I want to share these tips as my gift to you. Think of it as a five-course meal, complete with dressing, turkey, the works. These courses of thankfulness are designed to help you see gratitude in a new light, transform your mindset and inspire you to embrace the beauty of who you are and the life you’re building.
A Feast of Gratitude: 5 Courses to Savor
Course 1: Thankful for the Struggles That Shaped You
Being thankful for struggles reframes challenges as opportunities for growth, helping us see how they’ve shaped us. Everything you’ve gone through contributes to who you are. Reflect on a moment where you overcame something difficult. What did it teach you?
Action Item: Journal about a specific struggle you’re thankful for and write down what it gave you—resilience, empathy or strength.
Course 2: Thankful for Who You Are Right Now
Pause to appreciate who you are right now. The challenges you’ve faced, the milestones you’ve achieved and even the mistakes you’ve made—they’ve all brought you here.
Action Item: List one thing you love about yourself today—not a future goal, but something present and real.
Course 3: Thankful for What You’re Letting Go
True gratitude isn’t just about what we hold on to—it’s also about what we release. Be thankful for the habits, relationships or fears you’ve left behind to make space for something greater.
Action Item: Write down one thing you’ve let go of this year and how it’s made you lighter, freer or stronger.
Course 4: Thankful for Who You’re Becoming
Growth is messy, uncomfortable and often painful—but it’s also beautiful. Celebrate the courage it takes to evolve. Think about one way you’ve grown over the past year, even if it’s small.
Action Item: Identify one change you’re working toward and visualize the person you’re becoming because of it.
Course 5: Thankful for What Lies Ahead
Gratitude isn’t just about the past or present—it’s also about the future. Be thankful for the opportunities waiting for you and the person you’re continuing to grow into.
