Fearlessly Say Yes!

Fearlessly Say Yes!

When you think of your plans for next year, what type of leader do you want to be??

A lesson I learned recently that I’m including in my plans again for next year is:

Fearlessly say yes!

As a leader, we have two choices:

?? Stay stagnant, frozen by fears (fear of not being good enough, fear of failing, fear of the unknown)

OR

?? Still say YES despite fears The second choice can feel risky, but the growth potential is worth it.

The Story

One day, my friend Jackie called me with an unexpected question:? “Hey Anne, do you want to ride your bicycle with me from San Francisco to Santa Monica?” I had a few “fear moments” that almost made me say no - fear of being away from my business for 8 days, fear of not being a good enough cyclist - BUT I STILL SAID YES.

It was literally that simple.

I had no idea what I was doing.?

I was not an avid cyclist. (Actually on the day I agreed to this ride, the longest distance I had ridden was 26 miles.) BUT it sounded fun – like an adventure – and I love both of those things. I knew I would have an experience to last a lifetime. I knew I would be challenged and grow. I was all in, and in the end, it was so worth it.?

How does that apply as a leader?

Fearlessly saying yes isn’t just for extreme cycling adventures.? ?? Leaders who fearlessly say yes create an environment where team members feel valued and inspired.

?? Leaders who fearlessly say yes are confident that they will figure out the next steps in the process and find resources.?

?? Leaders who fearlessly say yes know that they will have some W’s but will have to embrace the L’s as well.?

?? Leaders who fearlessly say yes know that opportunities are sometimes found in the unknown.

As you make plans for next year, make sure you include plans to challenge yourself and grow.

You never know what opportunities are around the corner unless you say yes even to things that scare you.

In order to have something you’ve never had you must do something you’ve never done.
