The Fear

Last week I had a great conversation with the owner of a new brand making waves in the international sports market.

It was a very open, honest and at times raw conversation which prompted me to write this long overdue post.

Over the years of building a number of brands I have the let a number of fears stop me from really being able to leverage the wonderful network I have. The fears were not of failure or risk but rather of,

-         Looking stupid by asking a question that I assumed I should know the answer to.

-         Concerned that there was this secret formula that people were hiding to success.

-         Fear of exposing how much less I knew about the subject matter than people perceived I knew.

The things I am now sure of are this,

-         There is no secret formula. Trust me on this, what you are doing is creating your own formula for success your way.

-         Those that are not openly sharing what they have learnt are really just hiding their own self-doubt which will just restrict their personal and business growth.

-         We ALL share these same fears no matter the level of success or time in business.

-         Every level of business has a new devil. However they are all very similar just a few more Zeros involved.

The more I learn in business and life the more humbling it becomes with regards to how little I actually know.

So I will keep asking questions and keep learning and anyone in my network that would like to ask me a question that may assist or give a new perspective in their journey, don’t be afraid to ask.

Tyron this is excellent. It also works in the opposite direction too. There are a lot of people who don’t want to share their knowledge because they are afraid that the next person will outshine them. I see this when I work outside our business in the health sector. I have always been willing to share my knowledge as well as learn from others. So many however are reluctant to share because of the ‘hard work’ they put in to gaining the knowledge. If we all shared a bit more and asked a few more questions imagine where we could be as individuals, a country and a global community. Thankyou
