Fear of Starting Something NEW

Fear of Starting Something NEW

This fear gets me sometimes.

Even this morning, I procrastinated writing this new article for hours... which is actually strangely hilarious lol.

In my research, I found that the fear of starting is actually categorized as an official Behavior Disorder: Neophobia.

Vocabulary dot com defines Neophobia as "A morbid fear of novelty".

See... we all like our current routines, and for good reason.

  • Routines provide a sense of structure and predictability, which can be comforting and reduce anxiety.
  • Routines help us automate certain tasks, which means we can accomplish them without having to think too much.
  • Routines help us create a sense of stability, we know what to expect.
  • Routines eliminate the need to make decisions all day.... which is mentally exhausting

It's actually quite fascinating once you start thinking about it.

We as humans are kind of programmed to do the same things over and over every day to keep our mental health in check.

Yep.... we are now at the point where your probably asking.... wait Dan.... isn't this newsletter about GROWTH??

Well, interestingly enough.... 1.5 years ago when I started this newsletter.... I decided on the the title "The 10% training HABIT."

See most people approach Career Growth the wrong way... and that's why most people fail.

We try one thing one day, and fail, so we give up.

We become complacent with our current routines. It's easier that way right?

With that... lets get to today's lesson.

MAKE CAREER GROWTH PART OF YOUR DAILY ROUTINE

It doesn't take much time to grow your career fast. I've personally seen success stories in which people are only dedicating 5-25 minutes of learning into their DAILY ROUTINE. And I fastly grew my own career this way.

But to do that, we need to have the right motivation. We need to understand where we are now, and we where want to go. We need to focus on the most impactful skill sets. We need to build support systems. And we need to optimize our time.

If we get all this right, Career Growth ACTUALLY becomes automatic. It becomes routine. It becomes just part of what we do every day.

That's why I've built this easy to follow Model. I don't want to overcomplicate things. My goal is to help people AUTOMATE their Career Growth in the Fastest and most effective way possible.

So today I challenge you.

Do you have career growth built anywhere in your daily routines?

With that, lets get into action!

ACTION TIME:

  1. Is career growth part of your daily routine? Why or Why Not? (use the above model for reference)
  2. If you have a team of people... is Career growth part of their daily routine? Why or Why Not?
  3. Decide to start today on a new initiative in your career growth. Once it is routine, it will become so much easier!!!

As always, I truly appreciate you taking a few moments to read through this article. We as leaders need to inspire growth and learning into the workplace, now more than ever. I promise to continue to provide fresh, actionable content week after week to help you do exactly that! Thanks for subscribing, much gratitude!!!
