Fear Sells...

It’s almost 7 months of living with the virus. First quarter of the financial year is already over and as per the latest progress of search for a cure, the next quarter will be no better (if not worse) either. Though people are calling it the #newnormal, frankly speaking, whatever is happening, is quite abnormal and human beings are not designed to live like this forever. So, there are only two ways left for us to go on, either we find a cure or we grow immunity against the virus. But whatever path we may find ourselves on, until the virus is completely obliterated from all nook and corners of the earth, the ‘fear’ is here to stay. And some opportunists are surely going to capitalize on this ‘fear’ and soon this fear is going to create a market of its own. Fear sells.
What I am worried about is, this market of ‘fear’ should not overpower the mankind’s intent or ability to find a solution to the problem. The capitalists should not be able to drive this fear so much to their advantage that they start enjoying it and do everything in their ability to protect the environment of fear for their own gains.
We have seen this situation before in many smaller forms, for example, despite USA suffering huge casualties every year due to the free availability of automatic and semi-automatic guns, they still have not been able to implement a strong gun control law, just because there is a section of people who gain immensely by selling the ‘fear’ of not having a gun in the minds of people.

4 年Very nicely written, I may still call fear of unknown, because I personally have confidence that my own immunity can conquer this virus even if I get infected but still fear remains in mind, further in crude language I will say, corona se dar nahi lagta , lekin quarantine se dar lagta hai, 14 days is too much , we need medicine that takes out infection in 5/7 days
