Fear / Hesitation of Asking for help / Questions

In Most of the cases, the reason of not fulfilling the requirements or not reaching the timelines is lack of understanding / misunderstanding the deliverable. Let’s investigate a normal scenario,

Problem Statement – Outcome / Delivery gaps  

Business Impact /s – Over-processing / Under processing; Delay in delivery / Missed deadlines; A low quality product, customer dissatisfaction etc.

Root Cause – lack of understanding with the requirements / product

Contributing factors ->

  • No clarity on requirements  
  • Misinterpretation on timelines / schedule  
  • No clarity on stakeholders 

Why do we face these kinds of situations? People do hesitate to ask questions by fear of rejection

  • What if people think I am not skilled enough to understand the topic in one go? 
  • What if my question is silly for others?
  • What If people make fun of me? I do not want an embarrassment in front of wider audience
  • How can I ask for help when no one else is asking? 

It’s very much important to understand – 

Asking for help or asking questions doesn’t make you weak or less skilled than others. In fact, it shows 

  • Your interest and `strength in understanding the requirement and what help is needed to deliver the outcome. 
  • Your interest towards the learning as well as delivering the expected outcome, to add value. 
  • You know where you stand and what needs to be done to reach on next level.

Asking for help or asking questions – helps you,

  • To understand the topic/ situation / deliverable better
  • Avoid confusions / conflicts 
  • Opportunity to learn and improve
  • Helps with collaboration and collaboration always leads to success 

So do ask questions, seek an assistance whenever needed … Learn and keep Growing!!
