Ask yourself this question.....Why is it that positive feeling are like teflon they rarely stick for a long period of time and negativity is like velcro it just sticks to you.
And your direct happiness is based around the negative state you have experienced in the past and it is the first thing you are drawn to when happiness comes knocking for example.
- Keith: I have a great idea lets try something new
- Kathy: I am not doing that because I remember when so and so did that they failed
- Keith: "give it a try"
- Kathy: Nope,
- Keith:"it will be a laugh it will put a smile of your face"
- Kathy: No thank you I am HAPPY as I am.
- Keith: Your so damn boring and miserable.
We all know people like this they are anxious about having any positive feelings at all and have a real fear of being happy. Certain people create a real taboo around pleasure this normally driven by fear and guilt.
Be honest how many self help books have you read on happiness in your life time and actually put the book into practice not many I bet.
Many of my clients when feeling happy used to have a level of anxiety attached to it " I am so happy at the minute but I am just waiting for something to go wrong.
We put so much pressure on ourselves to be happy and we link this to success which creates more anxiety. And we cannot make any mistakes as we do not have the coping strategies if something goes wrong and this leads us to start being constantly critical of our performances adding stress and unhappiness.
And why is it we are constantly looking to the future to be happy and not making the changes today.
- Ah next year will be my year,
- Holy shit we are only in May
- Yeah I know but got to plan for the future
Here are some the statements that I hear often
- I am frightened to let myself become to happy
- I worry that if I feel good something bad will happen
- I feel I do not deserve to be happy
Have you ever heard that person in the office or in a staff canteen saying he or she gets on my bloody nerves they are always happy.
I am telling you this because there are people in your life who fear happiness or it could be you.....Do you become suspicious of people who are happy WHY.
Happiness starts and ends with you and like anything you need to practice it or when you do need it the emotion its self will be hard to find change your programming and living for today. Do things that will bring a little joy into your life it is not something to be frightened of it is something to embrace.
Let children be your inspiration we all have one inside of us let it out of get it healed and start living because it us crazy adults that create hang ups and blockages in our life's that restrict our personal wellbeing.
And nobody should be given the power to control your emotional state if that is the case take that power back and kick their arse's into touch life is to short to stuck with someone who drains the life out of you.
As always your servant Happy Days.....
