The Fear Factor: How to Turn Your Fears into Fuel for Success

Hey there,

I hope this newsletter finds you thriving and making progress toward your goals. Today, we're diving into a topic that every high-achiever faces at some point - FEAR. That four-letter F word that can make or break your success. So, grab your favorite beverage, find a comfy spot, and let's get started!

A few years ago, I was the epitome of the overwhelmed and stressed-out solopreneur. I was grinding away, working long hours, neglecting my physical, mental, and emotional well-being. And, like a relentless shadow, fear followed my every move.

I had a vision for my business, but my fears were holding me back. The fear of failure, the fear of not being good enough, the fear of visibility, the fear of rejection – they all consumed me. I was stuck and couldn't see a way out. It was like trying to read the label from inside the bottle.

I knew I had to get a handle on these fears if I wanted to achieve the goals I'd set for myself.

Here's the thing about fears. We're only born with two of them; the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. All of our other fears, we've picked up from our environment, experiences, and the people around us. That explains why we don't all have the same fears. For example, some people are scared of skydiving (I'm raising my hand here) and some people love it.

In reality, fear is an irrational use of our imagination. We're telling ourselves stories about a potential future outcome. Which may or may not happen.

And from that, our fear is telling us what NOT to do. If I'm imagining that someone is going to reject me on a call, I'll be saying to myself, "why bother calling, they're going to say no anyway." And then I don't make the call.

The question is, if we all have fears, what can we do to move past them so they don't hold us back from achieving our goals?

Here are some thoughts:

Identify the fears: Which ones may be holding you back?

? Take some time to think about where that fear may have come from. Was it something your parents always said, or maybe you had an experience at school? If you answered a question wrong in class and got made fun of, it's possible you grew up with a fear of speaking up publicly.

Change Your Mindset:

? Focus on what you want, not what you don't want. What we focus on expands. If you focus on your fear, it only gets bigger. Replace the fear with thoughts of the results you want to create.

? Embrace Failure. It's important for your growth. Don't attach shame to it. We all experience it; the key is to view failures as stepping stones to growth.

? Visualization and Positive Affirmations: Learn how to rewire your brain and silence those inner fears. (If you'd like more information on how to use these techniques effectively, send me a DM)

Practical Strategies:

? Daily Gratitude. Being grateful for what you have puts you on a different frequency.

? Say "I'm excited" before tasks to shift your energy. Or dance, or jump up and down, or whatever silly thing you can do to shift your attitude.

? Utilize the "5 Second Rule" from Mel Robbins.

Take Action:

? Facing your fear through action is the key. When you take action in spite of the fear, the fear weakens.

?Ask key questions:

  1. What's the worst that could happen if I take this action? (For example, I'll be rejected)

  1. What's the best that could happen if I take this action? (They'll say yes, and I'll get the new client, promotion, date...)

  1. Am I willing to risk the worst for the best? (Am I willing to risk rejection for the potential to get what I want?)

? Don't let fear dictate your decisions.

Personal Motivation:

? Link actions to their benefits and your goals. Know the short and long-term benefits of taking action in spite of your fear.

? Approach tasks rationally, not emotionally. Be intentional, not impulsive in your decisions.

Remember, fear is a product of your imagination, and you have the power to rewrite your story.

Share your thoughts, experiences, and any funny stories about your own fears in the comments section. Let's build a supportive, fearless community together.

Stay fearless, stay awesome.

I'm cheering you on!

"What we focus on expands." I'm thinking hard on this. I may have to do some experiments. Thank you for your thought provoking article.

Fears are nothing but the lack of knowledge/awareness, Susan. My answer: Just know more and more about the problem. It's causes, impacts and ofcourse it's solution.
