The fear of Death and why it's OK to DIE

The moment one starts fearing death, half the happiness of living is lost that day itself.

Majority of humans tend to be scared of dying, it's but natural. Here I would exclude the ones who serve the larger cause like firemen, armed forces, humanitarian workers etc. These are the people who are aware of the risks and would probably be happy to lay down their lives to save others.

Luckily animals and plants are blessed; to live in the moment and are totally unaware of when, how and where they would die. They don't live by the fear factor, it's pure survival of the fittest.

There are many instances in life where I have come across extremely strong willed people, who don't give up on life, no matter how difficult the situation maybe. These situations could be financial difficulties, emotional, medical or any other.

There is another set of people who are so scared of dying that they are not will to let go of their physical body. This is more prevalent in older adults.

Even after years of being medically bedridden, these people are so attached to life that inspite of being in and out of hospitals and the doctors having informed the family, that the time is near; they refuse to let go. Somehow the “inevitable” becomes indefinitely prolonged, taking a toll on the family as well as the individual themselves.

In order to help such people who are on their death bed but are not willing to let go, there are professionally trained people in the world who can help ease the transition. These people come in the form of priests, guru's, doctors, social care workers etc. These people don't do any magic, but hold their hands, read out verses from religious books, depending upon the faith of the person. They give them confidence that's it's ok to die. They counsel and assure them that their families will still manage to survive without them, be it on their own or through community help.

The reason of writing this brief on dying was due to the morbid spread of corona virus. There are so many unfortunate families who are loosing their near and dear ones on a daily basis. I could not stop myself from posting this to say, DON'T BE SCARED, IT'S OK TO DIE.

*** May we all get the strength to to face this pandemic as a human race without any physical boundaries, religion, race, colour.

A well written and thought provoking article, Pankaj. We as humans love to talk about anything, but the subject of Death & Dying is still a taboo.. In these troubled times fear and anxiety are a natural outcome, but it is quite pertinent to be aware of the inevitable and the transient nature of life.
