FEAR OF CLICKING ON "APPLY"?

FEAR OF CLICKING ON "APPLY"

You are jobless and don’t get an answer when you click on "APPLY"

Vs

You are in Job and still applying to explore better opportunity but don’t get an answer when you click on “APPLY”

Now in both the circumstances, the situation of response is the same. You are applying but not hearing back. But, in the former case, the frustration and anxiety level are much higher. When we don’t get that X amount in our bank account every month, our day starts with checking out our inbox in lieu of hearing back to the job applications we made the previous day.

But you need to understand this. You are not the only one who has clicked on that button of “APPLY”. There are many like you who have done that. This “APPLY” button is linked to an inbox where all applications fall. Now the next day when the recruiter who posted the JD opens his/her inbox, there are thousands of applications against one JD. And who can scroll through all the applications in One day???? Not Possible

There are few organizations that use ATS to screen the applications. So, if your resume is not ATS compliant then it gets rejected by a Machine and is not even looked at by a human. At your end, you are waiting to hear back and at the other end, the software didn’t even let your resume get a human screen touch.

Now if your resume is ATS compliant and reaches the second stage i.e. in the hands of the recruiter, then his two eyes will glance through your profile.

And here are the things how these eyes look at your Resume –

1.      The Top Headline:

This is the first area of your resume that these eyes will look at. These eyes have a JD printed in them and are just trying to find the right words. The role in their hand requires a certain specific skillset and these skillsets should be a part of your Headline

 2.      Your Current Organization:

The next thing recruiter will search for is your Current Organization and Designation. This information should stand out on the first page in BOLD.

 3.      Number of Years of experience:

After checking the name and designation he would go to the top in your Summary section and check the number of years of experience. This should be clearly reflected there just beneath the Headline

 4.      Summary:

Now if the above three points match the requirements, the recruiter will start showing interest and will read your profile starting with Summary. Now your Summary should be no more than 3 to 4 bullet points clearly highlighting what you bring on the table and how you will add value to their organization

 5.      Education:

If the JD has a specific requirement of any degree or certification and you possess that, then capture that on the first page just after the Summary. Else you can take this education towards the end of the resume.

In nutshell, all the requisites of the JD should be captured on the first page of your resume, and if all these points are in line then the two eyes will surely read through the second page as well.

So today before clicking on APPLY think like ATS Software first and then screen your resume with eyes of that recruiter who is the biggest critique for a job seeker. And believe me, if rite now you read your resume with these guidelines, 90% of you will be able to trace the reason for rejection.

Read your resume again n again and spend quality time on this document before clicking APPLY.

BUT STILL after clicking on this button, your effort does not stop there. This is the first step.

Let me know if you would like to read about “STEPS to FOLLOW AFTER CLICKING ON APPLY”

And I will surely share the insights there

 HAPPY JOB HUNTING
