So many of us now and days struggle with adapting to the concept of change. For many individuals it is hard for them to feel comfortable to new changes at their work place or personal lives. Most of us forget that in life there are no certainties or guarantees for all. One thing that remains constant and same is things change. Charles Darwin once said, "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the most adaptable to change".
Being able to adapt and work through changes presented in life, is not only a valuable experience, it is a significant skill to possess. No matter what, we almost always oversee how we are all constantly in a state of flux, whether it's people, our feelings, places or things. Several people associate the state of change followed by an uncomfortable feeling. Their natural reaction to such changes often leads them to avoid forces that would put them in a different situation they had not bargained for. In that state, such behavior leaves us with a feeling of loss.
The irony here is that, not only we fear uncontrollable change, at other times we want changes in multiple areas of our life. The difference here is that, we accept the changes we have control over. Our mind dislikes changes we don't have control over, due to the feeling of loss that results from various scenarios. This feeling of loss is often accompanied by a fear of accruing emotional pain.
1. Life Equals Change
Most of us have adopted the idea that "Change is not a good thing, and in many instances painful". At that case, naturally we seek to avoid it. People would rather endure the pain then have to suffer from breaking away from a stagnant situation in their life, even if it is not fully functional. For example, others would rather keep an unhealthy relationship, job or habit, then having to deal with an emotional or physical change. A good way of embracing it is, "Life is change". The more we find that aspect painful, we will be living our life as a punishment.
2. Accepting the Situations Life Presents You!
Moreover, the first step to embracing any change is to accept the situation we are put in. Now this doesn't mean we are passively accepting things and behaving like we are a victim of circumstances. Here courage, determination and honesty are required by us to fully acknowledge and value a situation. This means, we are accepting the fact that life is working for us not against us and for our good. Even though at the moment we can't clearly seem to visualize that effect. When we accept such situations we are gaining more knowledge and awareness about ourselves. A healthier way to approach our journey is to seeing an opportunity to grow and improve our lifestyle. This is the moment, when we ask ourselves - "How am I going to use this experience as a skill gained?"
3. Finding Something Positive in Failures
Perhaps the greatest fear linked with change is also failure. When we fail in our life whether in a professional or personal setting, we easily discourage ourselves from moving forward. It is the judgement of how others perceive us with the fear that paralyses us from achieving greater levels of success. Every action we take has a 50 percent chance of passing or failing. Although, there is no way of avoiding failure completely, what we can control is how we gain experience and grow from every action we take. This is where we take ownership for our actions, then make ourselves victims of life. A new way of looking at our mistakes is by asking ourselves what we can learn from it? When we all learned how to walk, many of us attempted and failed numerous times. But these failures did not stop us from wanting to learn how to walk. Same kind of acceptance towards ourselves can benefit us when we fall in life. This way we are freeing ourselves from deal with an emotional baggage on daily basis.
