The FE Exam includes the subject that electrical people HATE: statistics. Let’s solve this FE Question.
See the screenshot below for the question and multiple-choice answers.
There are several ways to approach this problem. The math aficionado can use combinations or the binomial probability function. Both methods will require the use of a calculator.
On the other hand, if you're not a fan of calculators, fear not. A straightforward, logic-based approach can also lead you to the answer.
Let's call heads by H and tails by T.
If we have 4 coins tossed, each coin could be either H or T. So for 4 coins, we have a total available outcome equal to 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16
Now, we are looking for 3 heads and 1 tail. Below are the total outcomes for that result we are looking for:
HHHT
HHTH
HTHH
THHH
So, there are 4 options for 3 heads and 1 tail
There are 16 total outcomes when you flip 4 coins
So, probability law says: 4/16 = 1/4
The answer is 1/4

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
The FE exam is the first to be taken before the second exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam.
When you register for the FE exam, you select the type of exam you want to take. The type of exam you take will not impact later on the PE exam.
As an electrical engineer, you can choose to take FE Electrical. You can also choose to take FE civil, FE mechanical, etc.
I chose to take FE Other, which means that, unlike FE Electrical, my test included questions on subjects other than electrical. For example, I had to answer questions on chemistry, thermodynamics, statics, and many others in my FE exam.
Statistics are part of every FE-type exam, so you must study it.
