This Month in Nursing History

The U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps was established with Air Force General Order No. 35 on July 1 in 1949.

The Air Force separated from the U.S. Army in 1947, but medical care remained the Army's responsibility. Major General Malcolm C. Grow convinced the Army and the Truman Administration to establish separate medical services for the Air Force, including the Air Force Nurse Corps.
