Overcoming the urge to be perfect is one my favorite topics, as I’m a recovering perfectionist.?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I still prefer to create things of high value; work, which is insightful and beautiful to look at. But I stopped obsessing with it, especially when it’s 80% ok.
For me perfection by now is a myth or an illusion. You cannot reach this goal or the goal of perfection. It’s intangible. So, all you do is create stress and pain in your life.
And I think it was Gary Vaynerchuk who recently beautifully said, I quote here:?
?Perfection is f*cking insecurities with a lipstick on.“
What does he mean? People are crippled because of their perfection. They are afraid what other people will say and they use that as an excuse to not get started.?
But you know what? Especially nowadays people appreciate seeing "real" individuals. No more BS, no more #NoFilter, #WokeUpLikeThis.?
A few reminders: We are all human beings. And the strongest among us understood that we're all flawsome - a mix between full of flaws, but nevertheless awesome.?
So, stay flawsome, give your very best to be YOU-nique, true to your nature and enjoy the journey.?
I know, I know… it will get easier with the time - especially the more you work on yourself and the more you realize that nothing is going to change - or nothing terrible is going to happen - even if you published a "terrible" LinkedIn video. A video that is not “perfect” yet.
Talking about videos. Nobody expects you to publish a video as your first piece of content. And no, you also don’t have to go live!? Try this instead:

What kind of content is fun for you? If fun is "too ambitious", let me rephrase it: Which content type is the least annoying or exhausting for you to create? Start with that one.
Applied to your personal brand, the art of marketing yourself, this means: Have the courage to start although you feel as if you’re not 100% ready yet.
Spoiler alert: You'll most probably never feel like that and that’s ok.
Sustainable, authentic personal branding is a lifelong process, a journey, not a destination.
You'll become a bit clearer, stronger better with every question you are able to answer, every post you get out there, every person you speak with.
So, once again, start although you aren’t ready yet. And push yourself to grow one baby step every day.?Just one.
Image how far you'll have grown in one year... in three years. More than 1000 steps!
I've started my journey seven years ago. And trust me, I had to face very similar fears, thoughts and horror scenarios my mind tried to convince me of...
Today, I know better and I herewith kindly invite you to join the authentic personal branding journey.
Are you in?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Perfection, and the striving for it, is a sign of dysfunction. There is beauty and character in flaws, lessons in failure, and potential in different perspectives. It's why I prefer photojournalism over simple photography, and graphic design photography over static observance. Perfection often breeds inaction, indecision, and indifference. There are some who believe that the personality types which strive for finding the "right" way of doing things, often don't achieve super high levels of success, compared to their perceiving, and not judging, counterparts. I'm a big fan of the saying, "Ride it out, and find out." You never know where a path may truly take you, but if you wait for the "perfect opportunity" to come along, you may be waiting forever!
Aim for progress over perfection! As Kristen Dyck says!
