FCC Coordinator's Corner

FCC Coordinator's Corner

I can remember twenty years ago spending a large part of my training as an FCC coordinator digesting volumes of FCC Rule Parts and scores of Commission regulations. Back then licensing of a conventional business channel was no more complicated than making sure two 25 kilohertz analog channels clear simple Cary R6602 service to interfering contours. Fast-forward to today where the spectrum between 450-470 MHz is spaced 6.25 KHz apart. Coordinators have to take into account a myriad of different digital emission masks. The engineering for exclusive spectrum has become tedious. When you care about what you are doing it is a labor of love. I have had the honor of working with my colleagues in the industry to forge consensus on engineering standards. My heartfelt thanks goes out to the coordinators who have been participating and contributing to our FB8 workgroup. The fruits of those discussions are already having an impact. FIT looks forward to hearing from service shops and licensees about ways in which the process can go smoother.
