?? We released our new Expected Points metric
We recently introduced Expected Points (xPts) to deepen Coachvision users' analysis. Expected Points (xPts) is a metric used in football analysis to quantify the expected outcome of a match. This is done by simulating each match 10,000 times, with a random number generator which decides whether each shot ends with a goal depending on its xG value.
On the Coachvision platform, xPts helps users evaluate true performances over a match or season. See below a standard league table which can be added to any dashboard. On the right, users can see the total xG scored, as well as the xG conceded. Moreover, analysts can view how many points their team or their opponents would have expected to accumulate (xPts), and where they should be placed in the league table (xRanking).

As might be expected, most of the bottom half teams in the Serie A table are underperforming based on their xG difference and xPts value. Conversely, the top half teams (which generally have higher-quality players who finish more chances) have more goals than expected and are ranked higher than they should be.
Ultimately, these expected metrics allow Coachvision users to gain valuable insights into true team, player and coach performance for one game or across a whole season.
?? In case you missed it
A few weeks ago, we took a look at the 2023/24 full-backs in the Premier League. Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth) is one of the most energetic full-backs this season, as Footovision's overlapping and underlapping movement metrics show. ??
?? New KPIs this month
Continuing our commitment to enhancing game analysis, we are excited to announce the release of new metrics this month. These metrics offer invaluable insights into offensive effectiveness (1-on-1 chances and big/half/difficult chances) and also physical activities (max speed over distances).
