On 1st August, FBS became the first company in Saudi Arabia to implement a four-day working week, setting a bold precedent for the region.
Why a Four-Day Working Week?
The traditional five-day workweek is being challenged globally, with companies increasingly exploring the benefits of a shorter workweek.
CIPD Research shows that a condensed work schedule can significantly improve employee well-being and company performance.
Here’s why FBS implemented a 4-day week:
Reduced Stress Levels
Employees have more time to recharge, leading to lower stress levels and better mental health.
A recent study by the Wellcome Trust found that a reduced workweek can decrease burnout by 30% and increase productivity and engagement by 26% and 32% respectively.
Increased Engagement and Motivation
Having an extra day off fosters a greater work-life balance and family time, which enhances job satisfaction and motivation.
Employees return to work more refreshed and ready to contribute effectively.
Improved Retention and Attraction of Talent
Companies offering a four-day week become more attractive to top talent. In a competitive job market, this innovative approach can significantly boost retention and recruitment. (SHRM 2023)
The FBS Approach: A Balanced Workweek
FBS operates on a 7.5-hour day, from Monday to Thursday, ensuring that the total weekly work hours remain effective without compromising productivity.
Importantly, this transition has not affected salaries, vacation time, or other important employee benefits.

By maintaining the same level of compensation and benefits, FBS sends a strong message: employee well-being is at the forefront of its operational strategy.
This approach aligns with global best practices, demonstrating that a shorter workweek does not mean sacrificing quality or output.
A Growing Trend in Saudi Arabia
Lucidia has also adopted the four-day workweek.
This marks a significant shift in the Saudi business landscape, signalling a growing recognition of the value of flexible working models.
Abdullah Asiri, Lucidya’s CEO, states that the decision reflected the company’s commitment to fostering innovation and cultivating an exemplary workplace environment.
As more companies consider this approach, we may see a wider transformation in how work is structured across the region.
Summary
The adoption of a four-day working week is more than just a scheduling change—it’s a commitment to creating a healthier, more sustainable work environment.
FBS is proud to lead this transformation in Saudi Arabia, proving that productivity, family life and employee well-being can go hand in hand.
As businesses worldwide look for innovative ways to enhance employee satisfaction and performance, I invite you to join the conversation.
