Favoritism in Corporate Hotel Companies

Favoritism in Corporate Hotel Companies

As someone who’s spent years navigating the dynamic world of hospitality, I've seen both the highs and lows of working in corporate hotel environments. While the industry is built on the promise of delivering top-tier guest experiences, there’s an uncomfortable truth that often gets swept under the rug: favoritism based on nationality and other biases.

?? Favoritism in the Workplace: Unfortunately, favoritism is a reality that many employees face, especially in corporate hotel settings. Whether it’s giving preferential treatment to certain nationalities or unfairly promoting individuals based on personal biases, favoritism erodes team morale and creates an environment where hard work and talent are overlooked.

?? The View from the Kitchen: As an Executive Chef, I’ve had a front-row seat to this issue. The kitchen is a melting pot of cultures, with talent coming from all corners of the globe. However, it’s disheartening to see talented individuals passed over for promotions or denied opportunities simply because they don’t fit the “preferred” nationality or background. This not only stifles creativity but also prevents the team from reaching its full potential.

?? Impact on Team Dynamics: When favoritism takes root, it leads to resentment, division, and a lack of trust among team members. It fosters a toxic environment where employees feel undervalued and demotivated, ultimately affecting the quality of service we strive to provide our guests.

?? The Need for Fairness and Inclusion: True leadership means recognizing and rewarding talent based on merit, not nationality or personal connections.

The hospitality industry thrives on diversity, and it’s crucial that we embrace this diversity at all levels, from the kitchen to the executive suite. By promoting a culture of fairness and inclusion, we can create a work environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed based on their skills and contributions.

It’s time to challenge the status quo and push for a more equitable workplace in the hospitality industry.

Let’s stand together to ensure that talent, not favoritism, shapes the future of our teams and our industry.
