Fashion, Rodeo Drive, modeling human form, Biohacking, Makeup, and Movies, everything I learned in LA, by Actress/Puppeteer MUA Yvette Edery
I want to go through every single year of the academy awards and ask,
"where was fashion this year?" It used to be animation. To have at least one reference
avaiable, not so much a database, as a publication or an app, maybe a
lecture online. Like a TED talk, regarding the inspiring ideas behind the
academy's contribution to fashion or fashion's contribution to the academy.
Many new productions, wherein a starlette has a relationship with a fashion
house or designer as their spokesperson or spokesmodel, or role model, will
create all new designs, even era specific, for the narrative feature.
High fashion is an art form in its own right with massive commercial success
into the billions annually, supporting actors and musicians as the models
of these lifetime achievments. Every single stitch matters. The outcome for
women is beauty. The behind the scenes is somewhat untouchable. The inner
houses of fashion. Many designers live, breathe, eat, and sleep this artform.
They cry on camera. It is not just their business. It is really their
hearts and souls and their search for the right material or color is epic.
They stand silently behind the on screen beauties the world is fascinated
with. They dress them. Their art is what defines the modern day man. You
are not just what you eat; you are also what you wear. The best way into
beauty is through beauty. Biohacking this makes for health as there are
hidden dangers in such/the obvious, however the foundations seem similar,
and when combined with the natural timelines they appear to really make or
break the individual, the production, and the art. So many of these
designers are basing their work on the western, or the eras, or the
collaborations or the future. There appears to be really artistic and
humanistic appeal to the new scientific accomplishments being made in plant
based stem cell, vegan cosmetics from Shakespearean actors, all the way to
truly inspired and artistic choices which are soul based or soul nature.
The fashion designers from Dolce and Gabbana cite Italian film as their
primary if not secondary inspiration for the billiin dollar fashion house
as does mogul Harvey Weinstein, creator of Miramax. Jeremy Scott made a
brave choice to invest in his own fashion documentary for Moschino last
year after many successful Met galas. Ralph Lauren has about three serious
publications on the foundation of his cinema, leading man inspired billion
dollar brand; with soecial focus on female business meets casual fashion.
The recent look books for Ralph Lauren and Rudolph Valentino harken to a
dark, romantic Shakespeare like world or reality. Their consistency in
color would be a tremendous lesson to all film makers and film students.
Georgio Armani's strict, annual black and blue, thin lines and form fitting
structure with gender fluid lines do not resemble the pastels of Ralph
Lauren with his polo for both man and women despite their mutual ideology
of clothing both genders. Many of them choose muses and best friends and
consistently and routinely give back to the fashion community and young
designers anf filmmakers as well as practicing costumers, such as Michael
Kors with Gigi Hadid, Lauren Hutton, and his work on Project Runway with
Alexander Pope, my previous costumer for Museum piece The Heart is a
Mirror, currently in the collections of Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, Israel, and
The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, California. The lifelong attention
I have been given by my parents as well as their support and own interest
in fashion, beauty, lifestyle, biohacking, and beauty really makes me feel
prepared to research this for the Academy. I have been interested in French
fashion since I bought my prom gown, on final sale, from a closing French
boutique, in Paris at the age of 18. My mother bought me tiny perfume
bottles as a child and when I moved to LA I learned about the famous Marlyn
Monroe interview where she was asked what she slept in and answered, Chanel
number 5. Since then I have studied almost every perfume on the market and
choose to sleep in the signature Michael Kors. Her work with Max Factor and
the Max factor museum is really interesting. It seems the inner
transformation trumps the exterior, with good reason. The stories of
fashion from within my own family are the really heartfelt centers of a lot
of my work. My desire to experience the health and cleanliness of some of
these products really drives my every day life. Also the creation of new
products, new lines, really inspires me for the future. I am pretty deeply
concerned with the earth, her health, her emotional well being. I would
like to know for sure there is a happy outcome for her and I know the
fashion and biohacking community are holding the soace for her and her
children. I hope this makes mothers feel fabulous. We can all be Sarah
Jessica Parker. How do these actors develop such deep relationships with
these designers, these directors? Where is the bridge between the Italian
marionette and Italian fashion, besides the marionette print used for Dolce
and Gabbana? Where is the link between Italian theater and Italian film and
Italian fashion? Does it have an end? Apparently not. Italian business is
not far behind in keeping Italian fashion quality. Is this a foreign
subject? It seems to cost a lot of money to do this. So many of these
performers are custom designing and custom building their homes, beds,
closets. The custom fashion really seems to be taking over the market place
too. Children's clothes for celebrity children from major fashion houses,
side by side with new fashion houses from young designers working hard with
new press for runway success from the hands of talented men like Kanye West
seem fascinating. The ability to believe the lengths of art as well as
understand the merging of commerce and garment and its impact on the film
industry as well as women in film through the eyes of a young auteur would
be so great to publish for educational purposes so others can use it as a
reference in their careers. So many people look to film and the Academy
qualifies projects of scholarly achievement. The use of these materials in
other disciplines would be so exciting! A night too see Ballet with
costumes by Rodarte, K.M.and L.M., live, would be amazing. To see something
at the International festival de la marionette in Charleville, Mezieres,
with gorgeous, lavish costumes by Dior, would be totally worth the trip to
France. Theater of the poor is fascinating in nature, however, it would be
inspiring to see entire sets done with the home decor of Tory Burch. Her
work with Dodie Thayer, particularly. Giorgio Armani:2009 Inglourious
Basterds (costume designer: Brad Pitt's evening attire). 2008 The Dark
Knight (wardrobe: Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne tailored wardrobe handmade
by). Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino were not onto something. Yeah,
they totally were. What a tremendous accomplishment of those two filmmakers
to get the designers personal attention. Handmade by Giorgio Armani
himself! Like that didn't help the story. I love to see those items on
display at the Arclight Hollywood. I love to see costume exhibits at the
Met. I love to see Poiret at the Met. I wish someone was doing this for
every single movie. It would be amazing to see high art become a commercial
trend. A lot of these directors are commenting deeply on the life cycle, on
makeup, on art, on family, and all of them affect the public voice on
women's bodies. Breasts, hair, eyes, hair color, weight, height, race,
religion; what is or is not commercial, who can or cannot tell stories,
which is important and healthy. More people need to make film. It does need
to be encouraged. There are so many important people to tell stories about
and others to tell stories about them. I pride myself on being the latter.
I like to tell stories about important people. Some of the women of film,
like Carol Lombard, who inspired legions of actresses, really tried to use
glamour and fashion. Women like Lucille Ball created looks that young girls
try to emulate years later. Carol Burnett actually is so funny pursuing the
opposite. Barbara Streisand found a way to make her ethnic features so
attractive using makeup and fashion. Cher is an icon of this. I really love
Betty White. Thats a woman of longevity. Goldie Hawn makes waif make sense.
Diane Keaton uses this as a fabulous cover up. In person she is so
powerful. On screen she makes herself a comedian through her clothes. They
all create and recreate and position themselves for the field through the
items they wear. Like a secret science. Whoopi Goldberg is one of the few
women who stands outside this. What Tracy Ulman can do through her clothes
makes me rub my face at 4 AM. Roseanne really knows how to tell a story
through her clothes. Ellen Degeneres is really one of the most
undescribably awesome people in person. I think what she is doing with her
whole life is incredible. Joan Cusack starred in Toys (1992), with costumes
by two time French Oscar winner, Albert Wolsky, costumer to dancer and
choreographer Bob Fossee, who used puppetry in his musicals on film; also
Grease. She really inspired me to be different, remain independent, have
any shape. Her brother's work in Being John Malcovich, with marionettes by
Philip Huber has insired me to continually follow Phillip and his work.
Joan Cusack dresses up like a doll in it. I used to love Janeane Garofalo
but she's not doing this. Sandra Bernhard, however, is doing this, whether
you like it or not, so I like her. Margaret Cho. Cameron Diaz is living
this. I want to be one of them. My grandmother taught me a lot about
fashion. She gave me her jewelry. I used to do her makeup. Life makes more
sense when I think about her, full time. I think about her when I think
about every noble thing worth pursuing. I will work hard if given the
grant. I will do my best to use it to help people. I know each of the women
above have powerful stories. I know they know how to use it. The work of
Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman,
The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets
ISBN-13: 978-0452287655, ISBN-10: 0452287650, is like a bible to me. I love
this book. They also have one, The Black Book of Hollywood Pregnancy
Secrets
ISBN-13: 978-0452290150, ISBN-10: 0452290155; I'm dying to get my hands on
it. There is a healthy, awesome way to do this. Can I use this to become a
luminary? There is so much detailed information. Where is all this
creativity from? Creative fertility. Is anybody else talking about this?
The art speaks for itself historically. The science behind it is seriously
interesting. I'm down to figure out the theory. I bet its simple. I bet
there is a simple answer. Commerce should new wave. I want to use all this
in my work. I want it to be at the heart of it. My objective is to clearly
and conscisely describe this. My methodology is to seek it out for the
health of others through my own life; to apply it daily, to record my
findings, to share it consistently. To put it in academic or professional
context by referring to other leading works on the topic I would like to
cite the above films and books, and also include works that are not
limiting. Works that allow for something amazing to take place in the
Universe, it needs that. Puppetry by Eileen Blumenthal, Zen in the Art of
Archery by Eugen Herrigel, Reality by Peter Kingsley, Love in the Time of
Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin, The
Bulletproof Cookbook by Dave Asprey, The Better Baby Book by Dr Lana
Asprey, Jan Saudek by Jan Saudek all cover some aspect of the above. A
World History by Blumenthal does not discuss costume. Zen in the Art of
Archery discusses the way to creativity but not its outcome. Reality by
Kingsley discusses the universe and the hidden however it does not discuss
sharing. Love in the Time of Cholera discusses lifetimes of cultural
relationships lasting decades but it does not discuss romance as commerce.
Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin shows female capacity but does not discuss
impact on fashion or entertainment, historically. The Bulletproof Cookbook
by Dave Asprey discusses eat for performance, health and wellness for
artists, and the kitchen for creators, but not direct impact on the arts as
internationally, culturally, or historically, while being a fabulous
reference for the Academy or its level of professional, for builders. The
Better Baby book discusses every suppliment needed to achieve health while
pursuing the above (think of what Poiret did for his wife, what the
designers do for their muses, what the directors do for their actirs, what
the actirs do for their directors) but does not discuss a healthy
fullfilled lifestyle while doing so. The work of Jan Saudek, Czech
cinematographer, subject of so many exhibitions, discusses female life
cycle, but does not discuss clothes. I will attempt to cover costume, the
outcome of creativity, sharing, romance as commerce, female capacity and
impact on fashion or entertainment, historically. I will attempt to also
cover eat for performance, health and wellness for artists, and the kitchen
for creators, with direct impact on the arts as internationally,
culturally, or historically, for builders. I would also like to be living
representation of a healthy fullfilled lifestyle for the lecture or exhibit
while potentially wearing something from those clothes, maybe a one time
Dior purchase. It appears underrepresented at this year's awards with the
exception of attire to the award show. The materials in the cannon of
scholarly works on the subject seem minimal. I think it will be fabulous to
watch and create and share this way. The project’s significance in its
field of study: I hope actors can use this as a reference. I hope builders
will be nourished by it. I hope directors will be given something to engage
them. I hope producers will find it a great reference material for their
future collaborations and the people in it inspiring while in their own
art. I hope young costumers find it really helpful with a lot of
information. I hope makeup artists can use it to further their libraries,
especially regarding product availability. I hope visual effects artists
can expand their minds through this. Art is health.

Reference, Vanity Fair. Film related subject: archetypes from Hero's

Angelina Jolie Pitt for the Unbroken premiere.
My publications are online articles and in Puppetry Journal and as a
blogger. I may have a collaborator for publishings. I would like to use
IMDB as a resource. Especially to find high fashion designers in film.
Which films? For which character. Interesting the cape on Bat Man in The
Dark Knight should be his hero symbol and Armani did the Bruce Wayne suit.
I wonder which makes him a bigger hero. Does that make people who wear
Armani wearers of the Batman hero wear? You can actually do that.
The project’s significance in its field: First ever collection of its kind.
It might take some time to cite all the parties involved. Especially if it
does not focus on one designer. I will probably choose five.
How your professional experience is relevant to the project:
1-Previously worked for almost a year at the theater where the Academy
holds the awards.
2-Taught at NYU within a 6 degree radius of other Academy award nominated
and winners of the award.
3-Went to hundreds of academy qualifier film festivals as an official
selection with my festival debut.
4-Am currently an Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting applicant
with two projects I wrote.
5-Studied the Oscars extensively from the age of 13 if not earlier and made
it the theme of my religious adulthood. (Bat Mitzvah)
6-Currently mentored by Bob Harvey, Panavision, new filmmakers award
recipient, in competitve preproduction on major indie motion picture.
7-Attended Academy screenings, lectures, museum exhibitions, and created a
professional women's tea salon for Academy members to experience the health
of high quality Japanese green tea with Anna Dragana Diaz at the Beverly
Hilton. Modeled invitation on their letterhead after Academy invitation.
8-Have studied cinematography meeting fashion while working for Peggy
Hurtig, assistant to Georgio Armani, at Emporio Armani. Fan of his short
with Scorscese.
9-Current library card holder and member of the Margaret Herrick library on
La Cienega where I go once a month to study film for my current
preproductions.
10-Have sown since childhood by hand to make clothes for dolls and have
travrled the world as a professional puppeteer and builder creating
original, one of a kind costumes for marionettes on film.
The project’s significance to your own professional development:
My arrival in LA was for animation as a producer however I really fell into
the makeup and the costume/fashion. My parents have visited, they're always
welcome. Meanwhile, I discovered how scientific if not formulaic the
progessional excersises of these makorly accomplished players were and
started to study the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Their pregancies
even became the subject of tremendous glamour. I would like to continue to
study, diseminate, and publisize these artistic and human performance
accomplishments through my early 40's.
a timetable for completing the project:
I would like to create the documentation of these on the internet. Perhaps
a facebook page, so ideally something is done daily. A post daily
throughout my entire research period, short clips or videos or filming
interviews with fashion heroes. Links online to current red carpet and
runway. Seasonal, or award season press. I can contribute any time,
ongoing. The only material I own are my own designs. Not those of the
creative professionals who can contribute stories, drawings, designs,
clips, information, or life stories. The site could draw major buisness to
those contributors however the primary focus is my life long, deeply felt
love of glamour in fashion and art as it affects the entertainment industry
and production as well as red carpet (with a focus on female longevity and
lifestyle of pregant women, especially in early 40s). Every day till the
money runs out, I'll do it.
Any grants, residencies or additional resources already available to you.
How you intend to use the Academy grant:
Grants available to me now- panavision new filmmaker. Residencies- none.
Resources- mentorship. My project is to enhance and upgrade the resources
available to the public after or through the Beverly Hills Public Library
adjancent to Rodeo Drive, which has about 11 books and two CDs on fashion,
costume, red carpet, and zero on Academy Awards fashion, 3 on vegan
lifestyle, maybe double or triple those numbers at most. To fulfill the
need for lifestyle, documentary, historical, people information on
designers, their histories, fashion for women. Dior as the model for
previously successful documentaries, with thr Scorsese short as a potential
clip to model, as well as their interactive high definition films for
exhibition. The grant is to cover making a few clips, to provide resources
to those who plan to contribute, to cover costs of travel to get behind the
scenes, to legitmately afford the time of my contributors and to ask for
their contributions, perhaps dinners to get information and stories, to
create art like logos for the projects, to pay for materials I can later
use. To go abroad for a short time to visit fashion houses during special
events and to use high quality equipment including getting the insurance
needed to do so, if possible.
