In water works specially distribution networks, the variation of Pressure is not that big however it is repeated periodically.Water spikes are very rapid, and as per my experience very few water works operators are using a high frequency pressure transducers.It is impossible to count all pressure spikes, however, i have been doing comparative study for PVC Fatigue and LLC [Life Cycle Cost], so the attached 2 examples shows the effect of reducing pressure fluctuation in pipeline (only 0.5 bar reduction) which leads to 2.5 extended lifetime than the original lifetime without controlling. Reducing pressure fluctuation amplitude i think is essential, it is important to understand why it happens to prevent it during design stage, also to choose a surge protection system that can save your investment by reducing the LLC, by increasing the pipeline and system lifetime.#Leakage control and pressure management is essential, but i think preventing the disease that lead the system to the leakage is more vital.
