I am so thankful that my wife, Nikki Gagnon, took this video. It was two years ago to the day when, for the first time, I played and sang for my little boy...He was just about a month old...It was also my first time playing this series of songs by the Beatles - Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, and The End...I have the quote for Golden Slumbers above Fox's bed - "Golden Slumbers fill your eyes...Smiles awake you when you rise...". Such a special song for me.
It would be only a couple weeks after this video was shot that I would lose my Dad (Hank Gagnon). He was my best friend. I had the same three songs played for him at his funeral. It was fitting...the last three songs on the Abbey Road record that represented the end of the Beatles. It's also how Paul McCartney ends many of his concerts to this day.
Music was always a major part of my Dad's life and it has been a huge influence and power in my life...I can only lead by example and hope that my son finds as much love in music as my Dad and I did.
I have always been self-conscious about my ability to sing in front of others but that all changes when you sing for your little one. I could care less now that I messed up the song in the video, because my son loved it and I could sense that he was well aware that I was singing just for him...with all my loving, I sing for him and someday I hope that he will sing for his baby.
What I encourage others to do is remember that you are a superhero to your kids...Be fun and silly with them...do things outside of your comfort zone...be fearless of making mistakes...they love you unconditionally and they will learn from how you choose to love them.

9 年Such truth and authenticity in this post Matt Gagnon. For me what resonates the most is being yourself and silly with your kids. We have regular dance parties at my house and what is most rewarding for me is seeing my kids' faces watching me in silly and carefree mode. I know in my heart they will carry these precious memories with them forever as well. How important it is for our children to see their parents getting messy and making mistakes as it gives them permission to do the same.

9 年Thanks Matt I play and sing for my kids as well we've made it a point to write silly songs together. Each of the kids will have their own song. It's a bond that can't be taken away.
