Father's Friday #1: Celebrating 5 years of Fathering Together

As I celebrate my 10th Father's Day, I find myself in a reflective mood because as a culture we love anniversaries and a decade is a big deal!

Over those ten years, I've watched two daughters grow into amazing people. It goes without saying that my wife has been foundational to their success, but I'll say it anyway. As for me, I don't think I'd be the dad I am today without my wife or the countless dads I've met and with whom I've shared the fatherhood journey.

In 2018, my friend Chris Lewis invited me to join a Facebook group he created called Dads with Daughters: We're All on A Journey of Discovery. Within a month, the group had grown to 500 and I asked if he wanted help facilitating the fledgling virtual community. Thankfully he said yes and a year later, we had 10,000 members.

So in the fall of 2019, we pulled together a group of friends and colleagues to form a non-profit called Fathering Together. The Facebook community would cross 100,000 members before the close of 2019, and in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, George Floyd's murder, and a tumultuous election year, we forged our identity.

So as we celebrate 5 years of organizing workshops, hosting panels on gender equity, and merging with City Dads Group to grow our membership to over 150,000 dads across the globe, Chris and I took a moment to reflect, celebrate, and thank so many people who have played a role.
