Buying a house, especially in today’s housing market, can be challenging. Furthermore, once a home is secured, homeowners are faced with a whole host of new responsibilities and may feel out of their depths as repairs, maintenance, new bills, and other homeownership-specific tasks pile up.

More than half (51%) of Americans who have a dad or father figure in their life turned to them for advice on buying a home. For those who live within a couple of hours of their dad, the share is even higher (56%).?

Homeowners turn to Dad especially often for advice on taking care of their home. Nearly 40% of American homeowners have asked their dad for advice on home repairs and other home maintenance.?

Americans who live close to their dads don’t just rely on them for advice; over 40% have had their dad physically help out with moving and/or home repairs.?

?

Though home prices are roughly flat year over year, they are still well above pre-pandemic levels across the country, and mortgage rates continue to hover around 7%. Likewise, though inflation has shown signs of slowing, consumers face higher costs of living.

Purchasing and maintaining a home can seem incredibly expensive and intimidating, especially for first-time homebuyers. Having a sounding board, adviser, and confidant can help make the process less scary, and the data suggests that dads fill this role for many Americans.?
