My father died four years ago. He was 87, which is not a bad innings. I’d be happy with 87. My earliest recollections of Dad and the family home are of warmth, contentment and the kind of energy that surrounds any big family.

9 年Growing up as the youngest of 4 and a parent of 2 now myself, I marvel at the grounded upbringing I was fortunate enough to have, and in some ways rejoice at the simplicity that we were ensconced in. The values Dad showed rather than taught of the merits of working hard and saving for the future, respecting how fortunate we were to have the love of family and the pride in this great country we live in and not taking anything for granted. And the love of Blue Swimmer crabs and freshly caught fish on idyllic seaside escapes is now ingrained in my own children’s lives. Forever thankful to have had such a wonderful Dad, RIP. If only every child globally could say the same.

9 年I used to think growing up when my dad would discipline me... I never want to be like that. Now, looking back I am thankful he was my father first, friend second. Now he is my best friend!
