The latest development in the stalled Trans Mountain pipeline project: The B.C. government says it will sue Alberta if the province moves forward with legislation restricting oil exports. The law, if passed, could curb exports to the region – driving up oil costs and potentially pressuring B.C. to reverse objections over pipeline expansion. Prime Minister Trudeau said earlier this week that the federal government was willing to help fund the pipeline in order for the project to go ahead. ? Share your thoughts: #TransMountain

The first fatality on a U.S. airline in 9 years: A Southwest flight from New York to Dallas made an emergency landing in Philadelphia after suffering engine failure; authorities said a 43-year-old woman was sucked toward a broken window and died from her injuries. The airline is cooperating with regulators and accelerating engine inspections. Southwest’s fleet, which carried nearly 158 million passengers last year, consists of only Boeing 737s, says The Wall Street Journal. ? Share your thoughts: #SouthWest1380

Starbucks will shut its 8,000 U.S. shops on the afternoon of May 29 for racial-bias training. Former Attorney General Eric Holder, the NAACP and others will help develop the training, which will be provided to some 175,000 employees. The announcement follows the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia location; Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson also apologized in person to the men, who were arrested for trespassing and later released with no charges filed. ? Billionaire Bratz toymaker Isaac Larian lost a bid for several Toys “R” Us stores in the U.S and Canada, The Wall Street Journal reports. Lawyers rejected the offer, as it didn’t meet bid qualifications for auction. Larian had offered $675 million for the stores, which are in the process of being liquidated as part of the chain’s bankruptcy proceedings. He also launched a $1 billion crowdfunding plan to save part of the toy retailer; it’s had limited success so far, $62,000 on top of Larian’s own $200 million. ? Share your thoughts: #BratzToysRUs

Bitcoin exchanges are facing greater scrutiny. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is questioning 13 exchanges — including Coinbase's GDAX, the Winklevoss twins’ Gemini Trust and Bitfinex — about how they protect consumers and fight fraud. Regulators have expressed skepticism about cryptocurrency trading, with SEC Chairman Jay Clayton warning that the platforms aren’t held to the same standards as stock exchanges. Crypto exchanges have been subject to “glitches, robberies, and more,” notes The Verge. ? Share your thoughts: #BitcoinInvestigated

Former First Lady Barbara Bush has passed away at 92. A “relentless proponent of family literacy,” she was also one of only two women in U.S. history to have served as both First Lady and First Mother. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, former President George H.W. Bush; five children; 17 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. ? Share your thoughts: #BarbaraBush

Idea of the Day: Developing an emotional “radar” — being aware of what people are feeling — is an invaluable skill for leaders, says leadership expert Dr. Marshall Goldsmith.

“Being highly attuned to the details of relationships and to what people are feeling enables you to excel at motivating others, inspiring morale. It helps you negotiate and communicate with sensitivity and skill. It supports collaboration and teamwork.”

The BC government has threatened to sue the Alberta government if they restrict oil to the province, while at the same time fighting the development of a pipeline that would deliver oil to BC. "You can't stop supplying us with oil but you also can't build any pipelines!" How much more backwards could this be?
