FAA Investigates Fatal Lake Norman Airpark Crash
On December 31, 2023, a single-occupant Piper PA-46R-350T Malibu Matrix, registration N539MA, owned by RTM Aviation LLC, encountered a fatal accident near Lake Norman Airpark, Mooresville, NC, USA. The aircraft, manufactured in 2010, crashed into woodland during an approach phase following a course reversal approximately 10 minutes after departure from the same airpark, leading to the death of the pilot. First responders, including multiple fire-rescue teams and Iredell County EMS, worked to extricate the severely injured pilot, who succumbed to his injuries at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Emergency Landing in Copenhagen
Aftonbladet reports that an SAS flight made an emergency landing in Copenhagen after passengers and crew experienced sudden, unexplained symptoms. Noora Friberg, 19, was the first affected, reporting blue fingers and severe breathing difficulties, symptomatic of around 140 other passengers on the flight from Malaga to Stockholm. Post-landing, affected individuals were tended to by emergency services; the cause remains unknown as the aircraft undergoes technical investigation to ascertain whether the incident was due to an onboard anomaly or an external factor. Beteta Ultralight Crash: Investigative Report Released
On December 30, 2023, a Pelegrin Tarragon ultralight aircraft crashed in Beteta, Cuenca, Spain around 20:20 local time, leading to the death of a 50-year-old man and serious injury to his 31-year-old wife. The aircraft was destroyed, prompting an investigation into the incident which has recently concluded. Preliminary findings suggest the aircraft encountered difficulties in a wooded area, complicating rescue operations for the injured woman, who was later transported to Hospital General de Albacete.
