Super Puma helicopter crash in NSW killing one passenger
A Super Puma helicopter, US-registered, crashed on Friday at Corrong Road, One Tree, 40km west of Hay, New South Wales, during a ferry flight from Broken Hill to Albury. The crash killed a passenger believed to be in his 40s, despite paramedics' efforts, and left the 39-year-old pilot with minor injuries; he is now stable in Melbourne Hospital. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has deployed investigators specializing in helicopter operations and data recovery to examine the site, review maintenance and pilot records, and analyze recovered components; a report will be prepared for the coroner. ATSB Report Highlights Safety Issues in 2023 Pel-Air Saab 340 Cargo Fire Incident
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) released its final report on the April 2023 in-flight fire involving a Pel-Air Saab 340A cargo aircraft near Cobar, New South Wales. The investigation found the fire originated from an electrical failure in a recirculating fan's control circuit board under the cabin floor, leading to structural damage and smoke in the flight deck. Contributing factors included the absence of a required smoke curtain, crew unfamiliarity with cargo-specific systems, and insufficient training and documentation by the operator and manufacturer, prompting safety recommendations for enhanced crew training, updated manuals, and pre-flight protocols. FAA Partially Lifts Flight Ban to Northern Haiti
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has allowed US airlines to resume flights to six northern Haitian airports, including Cap-Haitien and Port-de-Paix, following a temporary ban imposed after three US-registered aircraft were hit by gunfire near Port-au-Prince earlier this month. Flights to the capital's Toussaint Louverture International Airport remain suspended due to ongoing safety concerns. The decision comes as US carriers like Spirit Airlines and American Airlines previously halted services to Haiti after gunfire incidents, including one that injured a flight attendant and damaged aircraft fuselages. SARPcheck global aviation safety audit: A wet lease, codeshare, ACMI Booster
SARPcheck is a new global aviation safety audit that assesses airline compliance with select ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) across defined ICAO Annexes. The primary aim of this audit is to enhance global flight safety while providing an affordable and accessible tool to facilitate ACMI, wet lease, and codeshare operations. The ICAO Annexes and SARPs that SARPcheck focuses on are specifically those outlined by regulatory and industry standards, including FAA requirements for overseeing foreign air carriers and the TCO approval elements of EASA.
SARPcheck is governed by a London-based not-for-profit organization, the Safety Audit Review Partnership (SARP Ltd.), which accredits Safety Quality Organizations (SQOs) such as AEROTHRIVE to conduct these audits globally. Detailed information about the program, including the SARPcheck Program Manual (SCPM), informative brochures, and the latest updates, is available on our website at https://aerothrive.com/audits/sarpcheck-audits/ . For further inquiries or personal assistance, please feel free to send me a message. I'm always happy to help! Lufthansa City Airlines is the global launch customer of SARPcheck.
