Fast fashion pays for attention. Slow fashion earns It.

Fast fashion brands dominate the online space. They spend billions on ads, flooding our feeds with influencer hauls, discount codes, and ‘limited time only’ sales that never actually end. Their entire business model is built on noise—relentless, unavoidable, in-your-face marketing designed to keep customers buying more, more, more.

But slow fashion thrives on something fast fashion will never have: trust.

I’ve spent over a decade in the slow fashion space—building one of Australia’s largest ethical fashion platforms, running my own handmade label, working with brands from independent startups to industry leaders. And if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that slow fashion brands don’t need to outspend fast fashion. They need to outsmart it.

And that starts with leveraging customer content the right way.

Why customer-generated content is slow fashion’s most powerful (and underused) strategy...

The best marketing isn’t a high-budget campaign or a perfectly curated Instagram feed. It’s real people, sharing real experiences.

Fast fashion manufacturers churn out thousands of new designs every day, spending millions to convince customers that these products are worth buying. Meanwhile, slow fashion brands already have the most persuasive marketing tool available—happy, engaged customers who genuinely believe in what they do.

So why aren’t more slow fashion brands using this to their advantage?

Too many purpose-driven brands focus on explaining their mission, rather than showing it in action. They educate, they inform—but they don’t leverage social proof in a way that actually drives sales.

The shift slow fashion brands need to make...

People trust people more than brands. A polished ad from H&M about ‘conscious fashion’? Customers are sceptical. But seeing a friend rave about a well-made, ethically-produced dress? That’s real influence.

Authenticity wins. User-generated content (UGC) isn’t just free marketing—it’s proof. A five-star review, a customer unboxing video, an organic social post about why someone chose your brand? These things build credibility faster than any marketing message you could craft.

Visibility doesn’t have to be expensive. Unlike fast fashion, slow fashion can’t afford to be everywhere at once. But it doesn’t have to be. A strong community of loyal customers will naturally amplify your reach, as long as you make it easy for them to share.

Because here’s the thing: fast fashion buys visibility. Slow fashion earns it.

The brands that embrace this will be the ones that win.

And if you want to learn how to apply these strategies to your brand and scale without ads, I’m teaching the exact blueprint in my upcoming digital workshop on February 27th.

Join me for F*ck Fast Fashion: The 7 Secrets of Successful Slow Fashion Brands—a live, no-BS session where I’ll show you how to build a profitable, ethical brand without selling out or burning out.

Because fast fashion isn’t the future. But your brand? It could be.
