Fast To Apply, Slow To Get Offers, When You Apply To Jobs On Your Phone

Fast To Apply, Slow To Get Offers, When You Apply To Jobs On Your Phone

There's a regular poster on LinkedIn, who has been vocal in his struggles to find a job that relates to his education ... but continues to be ghosted by employers.

A year ago he made a LinkedIn comment on one of my posts that described why he's long term unemployed, struggling, being ghosted, and why he's not getting jobs when he's qualified, when he commented:

"From my experiences, it is best to download many job search apps on your phone if you have a smart-phone. This is because it is statistically easier and faster to apply for better-paying jobs on your smart-phone than using a desk-top computer."

This was a year ago and he's still long-term unemployed and struggling, living proof of a failed job search strategy.

And while he's right that it's easier and faster to apply for jobs on your phone, it's also highly unlikely you'll get interviews from jobs you've applied to on your phone. Even worse, it's almost impossible to advance in the interview process when you apply using your phone.

Here are 3 reasons why you don't want to apply for jobs on your phone:

  1. Spray And Pray Doesn't Work:?Applying to as many jobs as you possibly can, while crossing your fingers and hoping you get lucky doesn't work in 2023. This candidate is doing the same thing over and over, hoping for different results, while the odds are heavily stacked against him by spraying and praying.
  2. Impossible To Customize:?Heavy customization beats volume. It's nearly impossible to customize your resume on a smart phone for the needs of an individual employer (esp without typos), and his whole process is to crank out the highest volume of applications that he can. He's almost certainly sending the same resume to each ad. To employers, lack of customization looks like a candidate isn't trying, so why give them an interview? To customize your resume to the extent needed to get through Applicant Tracking Systems, you need a keyboard and a screen large enough to view a document.
  3. ATSs Are Programmed To Screen Out Non-Customized Resumes:?Applicant Tracking Systems match on exact word and phrase matches it's unlikely to match enough words/phrases exactly, verbatim using the same standard resume, one you've saved on a job board, or your LinkedIn profile. Hiring managers/Recruiters/HR reps can tell your resume isn't customized in less than 10 seconds, and it looks like you don't care about their job ... that you're looking for any job - So why would they spend the time interviewing you?

Good thing there's a better way to get more interviews, advance more often, and accelerate your job search in 2023. Why not let me show you?
