?? A BRIEF DEFINITION

Sustainability Claims:

These are assertions made by companies about the environmental and social benefits of their products or practices.

Consumers increasingly seek out sustainable products, but the multitude of sustainability claims can be confusing due to the vast array of environmental labels and certifications.

This complexity, coupled with the risk of greenwashing (where claims are exaggerated or false) highlights the importance of traceability. Robust traceability systems are essential because they provide the necessary evidence to verify these claims, ensuring transparency and fostering consumer trust in the sustainability of products.

A new EU proposal, published on the 22 March 2023, aims to enhance the reliability of these claims by mandating verifiable, science-based substantiation.
