The connection between Fashion and Instagram or for that matter Fitness and Instagram or Lifestyle and Instagram is hardly anything new, there have been volumes written about it and endless podcasts and tutorial videos made about it. So why harp on the same topic again….well everyone has their own perspective and though the underlying principal might remain the same, the stories and personal experiences of everyone are pretty different.
These three segments have their fair share of macro and micro influencers along with a bigger pool of wanna be influencers. Most of the followers of macro influencers are micro influencers and wanna be influencers and most of the followers of micro influencers are wanna be influencers and then there are people who follow the first two to gain an insight into their life, what they do and how they do it and find the best possible way of copy the same. Now, if people take things as a reference and put their own spin on it, its actually great but people want the exact dress or the exact manicure or the exact furniture in that one perfect picture that the influencer has taken countless hours to get just right.
Now, it might seem that I am outlining a particularly harsh perspective here and I agree, but at the same time I also feel that it’s high time that we start speaking about where we are and where we are headed. This explosion of the celebrity culture and the potential of people to become celebrities and influencers by posting the most private moments of their life and appealing to the most voyeuristic tendencies has already crossed its tipping point and become an acceptable way of life and celebrated even.
So where does this end?? Its a question that we have to ask each other, our friends, our colleagues, our family but most importantly our own selves… why are we so eager to give up our individualism so easily, why don’t we want to preserve it …why are we not more proud of who we are and build up on that.
What are we waiting for ? And why ave we given up?
