Seeing there’s so much doom & gloom news filling up our feeds daily, I thought let’s have something more light-hearted and share some fun facts about the fashion industry!!
- Louis Vuitton is the most valuable fashion brand in the world in 2023, valued at $124.8billion – currently number 8 in the world with?Dior being the fastest-growing brand in the category, increasing its brand value by 9% to $11.4bn (Source: Kantar)
- The coveted “Juicy” tracksuit was originally custom-made for Madonna who made the velour tracksuit famous overnight, soon after they were worn by Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Jennifer Lopez.?
- Google developed its search by image / Google image search option because of a Versace dress. In 2000 Jennifer Lopez wore a Versace dress for her appearance at the Grammy Awards. Everyone liked her outfit and started searching for its images on the Internet. This made Google start its image search feature.

- The crocodile of the brand “Lacoste” was the 1st?brand name to ever appear as a logo on any garment
- Keds were the 1st?company to create /sneakers in 1917.?They got the nickname sneakers because they were so quiet, a person wearing them could sneak up on someone.
- That same year, Marquis Converse produced the first shoe made just for basketball, called Converse All-Stars.?In 1923, an Indiana hoops star named Chuck Taylor endorsed the shoes, and they became known as Chuck Taylor All-Stars. These are the best-selling basketball shoes of all time.
- More trainer facts as it would be criminal not to mention Air Jordans. When launched in 1985, Nike expected to sell 100,000 pairs of Air Jordans 1 in its first year. Instead, it shipped 1.5m pairs in the first six weeks alone!
- Armani was the first brand to ban models from participating in its shows if their Body Mass Index (BMI)was lower than 18. The brand was also responsible for creating the first Bomber jacket by designing a series of leather bomber jackets in 1970.
- Heard of the Fashion Police??During the 1970s there actually were real fashion police! In South Korea, officers would measure the length of women’s skirts and dresses. These policemen would carry around a measuring tape, if considered too short you could have been arrested or fined!
