Suppose you are propagating through a keyword/topic/subject, learning and unlearning about it, the basic objective is to collect information and change it into actionable knowledge/insight - you can either approach it through a transverse heavy option (A) or a linear heavy option (B).
When you choose process A your knowledge on the keyword/topic/subject becomes more indepth. When you choose process B your knowledge on the keyword/topic/subject encompasses more adjoining areas but is not necessarily indepth.
In context of the present day, with the availability of all kinds of information in considerable amounts, it gives you both the options, to navigate in a cross section knowing and understanding the happenings at that level or to navigate linearly getting deep inside a particular part.
These two options provide for a fascinating case of dilemma about information overflow. What to choose, what to focus on and what to reject? It's a matter of understanding the meta information or information about information.
