Farther vs. Further: Yes, there's a difference
I think the word further is more popular than its cousin farther. I think that because I often see people use further when they should be using farther, but I rarely see it the other way around. Maybe you didn’t even know there was a difference (or you didn’t know farther was a word at all). There is. And it is. When you’re talking literally about distance, the correct usage would be, “We’re going to go farther tomorrow than we did today.” When you’re talking about the concept of progress, but not about literal geographical distance, that’s when further is your choice: “I think our company can succeed further.” Keep it in mind, but if you forget, don’t worry. I’ll catch it! I won’t allow the further misuse of these related, but different, words.
