Faring cricket well

Faring cricket well

As I approach the two-year mark at CA, I have decided it’s time to move on. Australian Cricket has been through a lot in the past two years, largely an upward trajectory from the historical low of Capetown in 2018.

The team has reshaped itself, on-field and off, and we have been working our bums off to restore pride in our sport. Following an incredible English summer where the Men’s team retained the Ashes and the Women’s team won theirs, I’m proud to say we have made significant headway culminating in the March 8 extravaganza that was the Women’s T20 World Cup. The sense of pride when I stood in the stands and watched the women’s team bring home their 5th World Cup in front of a record-breaking crowd at the MCG - including my family - is one I’ll never forget. And one I never expected to experience in relation to sport!

So, it’s been a tough slog to see cricket in the doldrums through the past couple of months as the world comes to terms with uncertainty and economic distress. I’ve certainly been challenged in new ways, not the least managing home schooling with my two girls! It’s these moments that define you, and never one for sitting still, I have been considering my future. After much thought, I have decided it’s the right time to bid farewell to cricket.

I leave behind a talented team who are committed to driving through what will inevitably be a very different summer for everyone.

I’d like to acknowledge James Sutherland, Kevin Roberts, Nick Hockley and the Board and Exec for their trust and support, and most of all I’d like to thank my team for their support and hard work.

The challenges are by no means past, but the team is capable and I have every confidence they’ll get through, and in fact come out the other end better for the experience. I’m just glad to have played a small part in cricket’s rich history... and I’m looking forward to some rest!

Thanks Karina for being so passionate about the game for both men and women's teams. You have championed the equality in sport and inspired many on the way. Can't wait to follow your next adventure??
