Farewell Message
Mercia Selva Malar
Associate Professor at Xavier Institute Of Management and Entrepreneurship
Prof. Panchanadhan Rajagopalan, affectionately and respectfully called as Maha Guruji in Punch Gurukulam circle was our Chief Guest to deliver the farewell address to Batch 2018 -2020. His message was a wakeup call for the students continuing their MBA program and those who have just joined to Gear up. The session was packed and loaded with wisdom.
He began with a quote stating Your success is guaranteed only when you run twice faster to keep the same place. The portals of the institution should remind each one of the intellectual physical and mental excercises carried out for a better tomorrow.
He stated that students are the PROs of the institution, not in terms of Public Relations Officers, but as people who use the Privilege of being a part of the institution, as a great Opportunity with immense Responsibility.
Peter Drucker's MBO means Management By Objectives. Prof. Punch talked about Management By Obstruction from the book Start with why?
He have a new perspective on MBA, Management By Application. Everyone must know that the key part of themselves must be Availability, Response, Reliability, Resourcefulness, Relevant. In order to be acceptable to corporates and society everyone must be initiators of good works.
He brought out the important of finding out and understanding and avoiding assuming. With all credentials the employer may still ask the MBA graduates 'so what?'.
He reiterated the importance of Action with the acronym DASH used to present the life of people buried in cemetery. DASH is expanded as Death Awaits So Hurry. He exhorted the students to find the missing links in the growth path. He explained it with the anecdote of Song of Birds. A person wanted to sell a property and asked his friend who is a poet an advertisement to attract buyers. When the poem was ready to be released as advertisement the property owner realized the value of the property with birds singing, streams dancing, Sun shining, etc. It is important to find the treasure within each of us.
He encouraged each student to be a Transformer, one who transforms others. He reminded them of life's basic learning, if you stop learning, you stop living and hence continuous learning and growth is important.
The two activities that were part of the session remained with them as powerful reminders of two truths
1. Who they others to see them as?
2. Don't assume and make an ass out of you and me
