Farewell 2024: Former Highlights and Reflection
Last year, I had the privilege of working on several meaningful and exciting projects, partnering with brands like Honda, Credit Karma, Disney, Meta Ray-Ban, Google, and even Taylor Swift. Each project brought unique challenges and opportunities, pushing me to focus on resilience and growth as a commercial director.
Here’s a glimpse into a few of the projects that made the year unforgettable:
Project #1: YouTube Shorts “Pop Shop” — A Viral QR Code Easter Egg Hunt for Taylor Swift
We made 13 custom QR codes using old-school typewriters and turned them into functional art displayed on murals, billboards, and projections across 13 cities worldwide. Fans came together to solve the clues leading to Taylor Swift's new single and a YouTube Shorts challenge. The campaign got huge attention, made national news, set social media ablaze, and even gained recognition from Bitly as a case study in excellent viral marketing.
Best part? Sharing the excitement with my daughter—who might one day look back and think, “Wow, Daddy was pretty cool!”
Project #2: Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs x Google Presents “Gemini”
This project brought me face-to-face with billionaire Mark Cuban in Dallas, TX. We talked about AI and the responsibility of making life-saving meds more accessible. Seeing how someone with his resources uses them to make a difference was inspiring. Working on this film with Google was a dream, and Mark's down-to-earth vibe left a lasting impression on me. Project #3: Credit Karma Presents “Member Stories”
We built three custom sets that transformed based on each member’s story, designed and printed three handcrafted storybooks for them, and animated their stories as they read them in their own voices aloud. I biked to set in Queens every day while we built & prepped. Somehow, we managed to shoot all three films in just one day! The best part? My family came to set to cheer me on—it was such a proud moment. I even got to do the voiceovers for the campaign, which made it extra personal for me. View the films HERE.
Next Up!
This weekend (January 11th), I'll be speaking at the MoMa as part of their panel for the "Neo-Carib Visions: Film Screening and Conversation." We'll be screening Episode 2, "Reunion," of Driver Radio: Jamaica as part of Forgotten Lands and MoMa's Creativity Lab: Making Space for Belonging theme. I'm super excited that I have been invited to participate!
2024 was an enjoyable ride, and I’m so thankful for everyone who played a part! If there is any way I can be helpful or if you want to hang out, hit me up on?Instagram (@ronbrodie)!
