Dear Readers,

Thank you for the overwhelming support and interest in my next book, which will delve into the often-hidden politics surrounding hockey. My aim is to lift the veil on the flawed evaluation systems, tryouts, “pay-to-play” models, and evaluation camps that have become all too common in Academies, sports schools, and Junior A Hockey.

This book is not just about exposing the dark side of the game; it will also offer simple, actionable solutions to bring about positive change. I will explore ways to make an immediate, meaningful impact in developing coaches, scouts, and evaluators while improving communication between governing bodies and provincial, state, community, and local programs. It's time to shift the focus back to the players and create an environment where development thrives.

The book will address how we can restore the game to its rightful owners—the athletes—while tackling the rising costs that weigh heavily on families, especially single-parent households. I will also highlight the critical distinction between development and recruitment—and why development has all shed for players aged 5-18 in so many parts of the system. This also extends to coaches and their development, as well as the evaluators and scouts who should be the gatekeepers of talent. At the core of the issue is a disconnection within governing bodies that often puts self-preservation ahead of building a cohesive team to create a strong, healthy, and safe environment for all.

I’m inviting personal stories about corrupt evaluations, unethical coaching practices, and board members who have failed the system. Please leave out names (including your own) and focus on the events that occurred. The book may feature your stories which, which will shape the solutions needed for long-term success.
