In business today, people judge us immediately based on how we are dressed, before we even get to say one word. Unfair? Totally! I run my own soft skills corporate training business here in Japan. Now if we can positively influence that initial judgement of us, shouldn't we make an effort to control it? Every day I carefully choose my clothes to determine that critical first impression people will have of me, based on who my schedule says I will encounter that day. What do you do?

Know The Rule To Break The Rule: Classic Men's Wear Conventions

61.??? Don’t wear square toe shoes for business.

Today's scent

Acqua di Parma Colonia - classic from 1916

This day I had a networking event "Fueling For Success With Sankaku Nutrition" with Dan Martin as the speaker for the British Chamber, and an Executive Coaching session.

I wanted to look sharp for the networking event. I chose my grey custom pinstripe suit with notch lapels, double pleats, 35mm double cuffs, side vents, flap pockets and I wore blue and grey striped over the calf socks. The white shirt with French Cuffs from Geoffrey Beene 1963, the grey tie in a Four-In-Hand knot handmade in Italy in Shantung silk from Rampley & Co. 2014, grey Canali 1934 pocket square, and my Kuska Fabric 1936 stabilser.

The mother of pearl cufflinks by Simon Carter 1985 , which were a gift from my wife and something which I thought would go well with the grey Shantung tie.

The silver corporate badge was from Dale Carnegie 1912 , the pen was my black and gold Mont Blanc 1906, the wide gusseted business card holder from Lanvin 1889 which can take a lot of meishi business cards and is what I need given all of the networking events I attend, the watch was my vintage gold 3000.2.M model Gucci 1921 with a very simple black dial, and black alligator strap.

The high shine shoes were dark brown, Vergano calf, Camina Mallorca 1954, toe cap Oxfords with a swan neck design, the Rain last, JR Redenbach 1871 soles, tied with a Parisian knot.
