I run my own soft skills training franchise business in Tokyo and many years ago, I decided to dress for success. Each day I consult my schedule and that day's work content drives my sartorial choices. Before I head out the door every day, I check myself in the mirror and ask, "Do I look like one of the most professional people in my industry".

This day was Day One of High Impact Presentations, which I was co-teaching and so a white shirt was obligatory, especially in 32 C heat. You definitely don't want to wear a coloured shirt and have wet blotches showing up when you are teaching this high energy, high heat generation course. I normally lose a kilo in weight each day teaching it because of all the output required. I wanted a dark suit for the same reasons.

The mauve tie choice was to look approachable and welcoming to the class participants coming from this monster $1.26 trillion firm. Attendees of presentations training are always nervous, so as instructors, we need to strike the right balance of professionalism without being intimidating. That is why i would never wear a strong red tie or go for a "power look". They are usually stressed enough at the start already.

I invited my co-trainer and colleague to a nice and quick sushi lunch at Tsukiji Sushi Jin in Ark Hills in Akasaka. Because I am always chasing clients, I don't often have a chance to have lunch with my colleagues, so it was a nice chance to catch up.

Off to the hospital to visit my wife after class.

I chose my blue Ermenegildo Zegna Cool Effect summer suit, with a subtle window pane pattern, notch lapels, side vents, double cuffs, over the calf navy socks, custom white shirt with French Cuffs, mauve and blue cufflinks, horn collar stays by Kirby Allison, blue and purple Pocket Square by Etro on a reverse puff, mauve tie by Celine tied with a double Windsor knot, silver corporate badge by Dale Carnegie, black and gold Mont Blanc pen, business card holder from Lanvin, 30mm Longines C30 EFCO stainless steel rectangular case and bracelet

High shine, black, calf leather Pollini Oxfords. I quite like these shoes, because they are quite wide and I have a broad foot, which can sometimes makes wearing sharper last shoes uncomfortable. Standing all day teaching means the shoes have to be comfortable.

Would the people who know you or meet you describe you as persuasive? Do you think you are persuasive enough? Persuasion power is the most important, but the most commonly lacking skill in the business world. Do it yourself trial and error wastes time and resources. It is time to change things up and get that key skill. There is a perfect solution for you- to LEARN MORE click here (https://bit.ly/3VhvR2B )
