Fare Bella Figura - Make A Good Impression, Be A Sharp Dressed Man, Episode #47 (Video here:https://bit.ly/3wKrjHZ)
I run my own soft skills training franchise business in Tokyo and many years ago, I decided to dress for success. Each day I consult my schedule and that day's work content drives my satorial choices. Before I head out the door every day, I check myself in the mirror and ask, "Do I look like one of the most professional people in my industry".
This day, I had a client visit to iidabashi with the trainer so that the trainer could hear directly from the client what he wants for the Leadership Training For Managers programme delivery we are going to run for 20 of his managers.
On the way back, I could finally pick up my 30mm Longines S30 EFCO rectangular case, black dial watch which has been gone for months, while they did the overhaul. Why does this stuff take so long? The watch industry is way behind, if you ask me.
A quick lunch at the Tokyo American Club to be seen by clients and saw one client who owes me an answer to my email about meeting his Sales Manager. Executive Coaching in the afternoon and this evening I gave a speech to the Tokyo Digital Marketers Meet Up on "How To Build Credibility With Clients Before You Meet Them".
I needed a white shirt because I was giving a presentation that evening. If you get hot under lights or if you are nervous about presenting or you pump out a lot of energy, you may perspire. If you wear a coloured shirt, there is the danger of getting a two tone look on your shirt, which you don't want, so always wear white when presenting. I do heat up because I present with so much high energy. I can never take my jacket off because I am drenched by the end. The Tokyo Digital Marketers group is run by Jeff Crawford from Zo Digital and he has been a guest on my podcast Japan's Top Business Interviews. The attendees are mainly younger people, so I chose my cobolt blue suit and blue and white striped tie to make me look younger.
My cobolt blue custom single breasted suit has a subtle large window pane pattern, notch lapels, side vents, flap pockets, double pleats, and double cuffs. I was wearing a custom white shirt with French Cuffs, Kirby Allison horn collar stays and a Hardy Amies blue and white striped tie with a double Windsor knot, Amanda Christensen Sweden 1885 small circles pattern pocketsquare to contrast with the tie stripes, large blue rectangular cufflinks, Versace gold 38mm Medusa motif watch with my Nubuck Alligator cobolt blue custom strap from Jean Rousseau Paris, black and gold Mont Blanc pen. The shoes were black, high shine calf leather Pollini Oxfords with 5 eyelets.
Unfortunately a disaster unfolded at lunch. I had some balsamic vinegar flick off my salad and on to the lapel of my beautiful suit. Great! I have to give a speech later and here is this dark spot on my suit. Normally, this would require a trip to the dry cleaner, which will mean applying a lot of chemicals, heat and pressure to the fabric, which is not good for the suit. You can avoid that scenario.
Here is a simple trick for certain stains and this is one of them. When I got home, I applied a very small amount of baby talcum powder to the stain and rubbed in into the fabric. Don't be alarmed that the spot will go a very strong white concentration, more than the surrounds, when you do this. You might be thinking, "Oh no - I am making it worse". Don't worry, it is part of the process, so relax. After letting it sit there for a while, I took my suit brush and started to brush the powder out. It needed a lot of energy and a lot of brushing, but eventually that balsamic spot was no more! So, add some baby powder to your bathroom cabinet in case of stains on your suits and make sure you own a good suit brush.
Would the people who know you or meet you describe you as persuasive? Do you think you are persuasive enough? Persuasion power is the most important, but the most commonly lacking skill in the business world. Do it yourself trial and error wastes time and resources. It is time to change things up and get that key skill.? There is a perfect solution for you- to LEARN MORE click here (https://bit.ly/3VhvR2B )
